Atlanta Hawks player arrested after going 73 miles over the speed limit

An Atlanta Hawks player has been arrested, police said.

About 12:20 a.m. Friday, a purple Dodge Charger driven by small forward DeAndre Bembry was clocked going 128 mph in a 55 mph zone on I-85 near Buford Highway, Atlanta police Officer Donald Hannah said.

Bembry was stopped without incident and arrested on charges of reckless driving and speeding, Hannah said.

This is a safety, maturity issue.

But not a huge deal. (He'll likely plead out to a minor traffic violation and have to take a driver safety course.)

But 128 mph on I-85 at midnight? Good grief, kid.

(I'm surprised the cops were even able to catch up to him.)

Stay in school, kids. Wait, he came into the league at 22? Never mind then.

Honestly, I gotta give the guy kudos for getting under your skin in a way I never thought possible.

It's been a long running itch.

That wasn’t DeAndre...not the DeAndre I know...it was that rugrat Pierre...

I’ve gone about 120 mph on the autobahn (San Diego) before and it was pretty stupid. It’s the only time I’ve gone so fast...kind of scared myself a bit...and the chick....

Ditto!!! I hit 105 in the mountains of Tennessee once at 2am. Scared the living daylights out of myself.

(There are no shoulders on the interstate there!!!)

He'll get a talking to by the higher ups (and by Momma Bembry) and learn from the mistake.

I hit 125 on I-20 heading out past Lithonia back before Stonecrest mall was there (i.e. police presence was scarce).

Would do it again 'cause I'mma G. 8-)

I'll only be impressed if you did 105 in that stretch going towards Chattanooga where they have all the 'OH SH*T!!!' lanes for trucks whose brakes fail coming down the mountain.

I'm sad to say...not so much. This was closer to Kentucky than GA.

Over a decade ago...At age 25.

Man, I was an idiot back then.

i go +90 some times on i85 when their is no traffic. I just don't pay attention, it took me a while to learn to pay attention to my odometer, so now i just use cruse control all the time.

I use to go +100 when i would drive down to Milledgeville years ago. Those back roads are so empty, you really get surprised at times how fast you're going when you look down at the dash.

one of the only positives of a ford fiesta, you literally can't go above the speed limit without knowing.

I could say the same for the Dodge Challenger... When you can't hear yourself singing along to Tracy Chapman over the engine it typically means time to take the foot off the gas.

What a horrible season for Bembry. He needs to turn it around fast.

And are we just going to pretend that we believe Spud had a 'chick' in his car going 120?

Sorry, Spudlous, I wasn't doing any drive bys...and shame on you, speeding through a drive-thru is especially egregious.
