I guess Bud told him he'll be playing limited minutes?

Collins finally gets to start alongside Dedmon?

1. It needed to happen.
2. The timing is curious. Why didn't this occur directly after the Trade deadline like Marco? Why didn't it occur over the All Star Break when agents/coaches/execs were all available?
3. This comes a day after Budenholzer states publicly that vets and youth will maintain their playing time and current roles.

Either he knowingly (and unnecessarily?) lied about that. Or this decision was made without him....

It's time for Collins to start getting those starters minutes and to take his lumps as a rookie. His growth is far more important than counterproductive wins.

Or it's as simple as Ersan initially saying he wasn't interested in a bouyout. Had to be convince to take it or sit on the bench.

^A distinct possibility. He'd have been better off accepting a buyout before the AS break. That 9+ day break would have been the perfect time to find a new team and get in some time before play resumed.

Agree 100% that Collins should be starting at this point.

I wonder if any other vets are looking to jump ship.

Yes. I was specifically wondering how Dedmon feels. Particularly after not playing in the second half last night.

Personally, I'm hoping Dedmon remains a Hawk. I believe he's a keeper.

Now, if he demands, at the end of this season, that he be paid $$$ super star status, that's different.
He's not that. But, I think that he's good and, with a reasonable payroll request, Hawks should be
able to retain.

Agree on Dedmon being worth keeping around.

It won't be the end of the world if he walks away. (Particularly, if we draft Ayton.)
But he seems like a good guy for the locker room if nothing else.

PS I'd be willing to give him a big money salary for a single year next year if other options don't come to fruition. Dedmon making $13 million next season isn't completely awful if it's a one year contract.

Illy going to the Sixers! Now, I have another reason to follow the Sixers! Since the Hawks aren't going to
the playoffs this season and the Sixers, hopefully, are, any one want to join me, for the remainder of
this season, as having them as your second favorite NBA team, behind our beloved Hawks??

GO SIXERS ! And their ex Atlanta Hawks ...

Here's how I see it.
Contending teams won't have the capspace to offer more than their MLE of $8.5 million.
Of the teams with capspace, they are in a similar position record wise to the Hawks. Questions for him to ponder in a move to those teams - Would he start for those teams, would he be used similar on any of those teams sim. to how he's used here?
Indy is an interesting case as a team with capspace and winning that won't attract high end FAs, but he would not start over Sabonis or Miles Turner.
Having said all that, I'd be ok with a 3yr/10-12 million per deal for Dedmon.

I don't think any of the trades were to anywhere Ersan wanted to go. Ersan liked being on the sixers before and didn't want to leave. I think they were waiting until he found a team that would sign him that he liked then they worked the buyout.

Dedmon knew what he was signing up for. He wasn't traded here.

With Embiid nursing an injury, Ilyasova is now starting in the Philly frontcourt.

Ersan and Marco Bellinelli combined for 32 points and 15 rebounds last night.

They acquired these two players for nothing after the trade deadline. :banghead:

I'm a little conflicted on this.

It's not like an attempt to trade them wasn't made. Teams wanted us to take back too much salary.
Philly wanted us to take Bayless and a 2nd who has $9 mil left on his contract for next season.
The typical cost to buy a 2nd is roughly $3 million, why pay 3x the cost.
