Like to start this thread to monitor the on-going rebuild.

At this point in the rebuild, basically nearing the end of the first seaon, how is the team grading with the rebuild priorities? The release of Sap will be the official beginning of the observation.

I'm going to list the rebuild priorities as: player development, tank rank, acquiring future assets and rebuild.

Player development: B+. Coach Bud is continuing his tendancy to get a lot of growth from his players. He had already demonstrated a talent for pushing vets to new heights, now he's working his magic with younger players. The only reason my grade isn't higher is because I don't see a star yet.

Tank rank: B-. Bear with me. Given the season opening roster and the fact that the Hawks are near first pick territory, this should be an A. The lower ranking comes from the "mistake" of bringing in Illya, Dedmon..ect., and adding detrimental wins to a tanking season. Before signing said contributing vets, Hawks were in a position to field a clear last place team. If the Hawks finish with the worst record, my post season grade becomes an A+

Acquiring future assets:C+. Last summers FAcy went well with the addition of the HOU first. The eval begins after Sap's release, so the grade doesn't include getting nothing forhim or any other past players. The FA additions bring the grade down because the Hawks were unable to move them for future assets before the deadline. Dedmon may opt-in and increase the future analysis.

Rebuild: B+. Might seem high given my above grades, but I think the Hawks are on the right track and the rebuild is heading in the right direction. Last summer's FAcy being the only concern since no future assets were obtained. Dedmon's out-come can help the situation if he doesn't opt-out.

Love to see you rank these indicators. I'll revisit this at the end of the Hawks season, after the draft and then again after FAcy as I think it would be interesting to track this over the development of the rebuild.

If you guys / gals think this is interesting to track over time, feel free to offer input into the topic like if other indicators should be added...

I'm ok with your grades.
I'll comment on the future assets - ideally you'd prefer to get something for them but I'm ok with them not taking back bad money for the late 2nd assets offered for doing so.
Capspace is in of itself an asset.

Regarding the vets - From my persepective it goes hand in hand with player development. You need good vets to show the youngins the NBA game on the floor, in the locker room and their downtime. Collins said Baze and Dedmon have been invaluable in that regard. You learn by doing, but sometimes you watch and learn.
If you don't sign good vets, you'd sign more guys interested in 'Imma get mine' than actually the young players to develop.

You can also throw 'Effective Use of GLeague' in a category.
We used it great - Dorsey got invaluable minutes in anticipation of the the Beli trade, so he was ready to step in.
Tyler Cavanaugh stepped right in when we had all the injuries and parlayed his 2way into a full NBA deal. (Pity he got injured, he shud be back soon).

Player Development - A- Collins, Dorsey even Baze continue to develop well. I gave a minus because I think we're wasting time with Delaney.

Tank Rank - A - we're right there. I expect a top 3 pick

Future assets - B - but we aren't in the acquiring mode really. Taylor and Cavanaugh may prove useful and White is promising. Dorsey and Collins look like we did very well in the draft. Not acquiring much of anything at the trade deadline was disappointing but Ersan blocked most of that.

Rebuild - B - so far so good. we've got a lot of raw talent to work with but we need better talent this summer. I feel like mgt thinks Baze and Dedmon maybe in our timeline for competing. They are relatively young without a ton of nba miles on them. Right now our worst contract is Plumlee but he's played well as a big off the bench. I can live with that.

+1 for the Delaney reference.

I'll add that throwing a bunch of totally inexperienced guys on the court together won't help them develop properly. As you said you need vets for that. But think about having a whole team of 20-25 year olds who are making 100k+ a month with no one around to provide off the court guidance. I mean so one has to throw soup at these guys when they are screwing up off the court.

I like my tanking vet presents guys to wear suits better than getting wins, but good point about keeping experience on the team

Plumlee (29), Baze (28), Delaney (28) and Mouse (26) and Elton Brand in a suit is my kind of vet presence in a tank.

and Baze can be moved for a pick and a vet in a suit anytime? though nothing but love for Baze. Just thinking future
