Hawks Draft - Quality vs Quantity?

Post#1 » by pacehawk » Thu Jun 21, 2018 12:57 pm

Just curious if other Hawks Fans think the Hawks will draft who they think is the Best Player (Hopefully, Doncic!!!) OR try to get more Draft Picks/Players. Personally, IF, Doncic is still available I hope they pick him! Of course, I know everyone has a price!

I think they will go after a quality franchise cornerstone with the top lottery pick.

But the team will (and should) go quantity with later picks. Get as many shots between 14-22 as possible.

NOTE: Rumors have consistently linked us to moving up into the latter half of the lottery via salary dumps or pick consolidation.

I prefer quality over quantity in almost anything and it’s no different here. I’d love to grab Doncic at 3 and then try to trade 19,30,34 Cavs 19 pick, Dennis Baze to try and trade up in to another top 10 pick.

Happy with Doncic and one of any of the bigs (at this point jjj is included but only after we get Doncic but not so much by himself) but prefer Bamba with Luka!

ESPN did a stat this am on international guys in the lottery the past 23 drafts. It is very very low in success rate, with 1/18 players becoming an all-star. For college players, it’s about a 20 percent success rate.

So odds are better to avoid Doncic, and take the BPA even if this duplicates talent at one position.

How many of those Euro guys are coming over immediately and at age 19 though?
Additionally, there are less Euro players actually being drafted that college players. So the pool of Euro players is also smaller.

Not just that but how many Euro players have been as highly touted at Doncic.

Generally speaking it's always quality over quantity. 4 quarters do NOT equal a dollar in NBA math.

Based on percentages though, the bust potential is still greater with Doncic.

If we keep DS, it might be worth the risk. It depends on the need of the roster and who fits.

Gotta get the guy who can be an all-star beyond the first 2 picks. Not sure I pick Bagley at 3 though unless for someone else.

BOS wants in Top 5 (probably for Bamba)...would you help them, and what is a realistic return for that pick?
