Am I crazy?

Or has Schlenk made some solid moves this summer?

I'm not a huge fan of the draft, though I've come to accept that the Hawks FO didn't see a tremendous difference between Young, Jackson, and Doncic, so they traded back and took Young. Not the move I would have done (everything I read pointed to Doncic). Similarly not a huge Huerter or Spellman fan, but they're all young and have potential.

I wasn't originally a huge fan of the Lin deal (thought they could have done the Denver deal), but thinking of it in context with the OKC deal its

Schroeder

for

Lin, Anthony, Justin Anderson, OKC maybe 1st, and Nets far away future 2nd.

That's an improvement I think. Cleans up the balance sheet and adds some assets.

Then I like the Len and Poythress signings. They, combined with acquiring Anderson, make for 3 relatively low-risk signings that get players that could contribute to the next Hawks playoff team. I know none of the deals is super long-term, but these small bets are how you find the cheap bench guys that you need to be able to afford stars. Then they could have 3 lotto picks next year. That's building towards something.

I like our moves other than our draft. I would have just kept Doncic or taken JJJ over Trae and what now looks to be a late lotto first; Huerter is okay at 19; think Spellman is a reach at 30.

The balance sheet looks much cleaner than it did going into the season, and with Dennis gone we're much more in control of our future going forward.

Nope. You ain't crazy. Hawks have a full roster, three teen age picks, first round, and have added three or four new guys.
Then, they have several extra picks in the next few years.

Add to this the fact that, come next summer, Hawks have a boat load $$$ room to sign free agents. This Hawk team is not great. Too much inexperience. But, they will learn this season, improve and scare the crap out of some good teams by the time the season rolls toward the end.

Meanwhile, Hawks will be fast, young, exciting to watch and ready to wreck havoc on the nerves of every team they meet!!

:D

Would have been even better if Plumlee and Baze could be moved but it's understandable that the FO wouldn't want to give up asset for that.

They are tons of variables but this team is indeed full of potential.

Honestly, I think Bazemore is useful to have on the team, and I think that if the Hawks decide to trade him, it'll be next year, when he's viewed as a starting guard with one year left on a contract that is a bit large. With all of the cap space teams will have next year, I could see a competitive team that strikes out on the FA market deciding to trade for 1 year of Baze instead of overpaying in free agency.

Plumlee is another story. Not sure what the Hawks can do with him. I'm glad they haven't attached assets to him to deal him though.

Agreed, that's most likely what's gonna happen and he does have value for this team, especially since it looks like they're not doing a Philly style tank.

OTOH, if his contract was more reasonable I'd imagine another team would give a FRP for him and he likely was gone.
