I don't see too much playing time being available for Vince. I'd love to have him back because of the mentorship he provides to the young guys, but if he really wants to play significant minutes then bringing him back may be a disservice to him.

That would be the best move for the NBA.

This is a minor fall out, but with what happen to Kawhi, does Vince come back to the Hawks?

I'd love to see Vince back in Toronto for the final ride, would add a sense of closure to both he and the Raptors. I think bringing in Jabari solidified that we won't be bringing Vince back. Of course, if I'm wrong, that would be fantastic.

2019 NBA Free Agency: Top 10 Players Still on the Board

7. Vince Carter

Somebody give Vince Carter a job already. He's retiring after next season, and we deserve a proper farewell tour.

Of course, this isn't just about getting the opportunity to bid him farewell. Carter can help a team and fits almost anywhere. That includes rebuilding squads. He spent all of 2018-19 mentoring the plucky Atlanta Hawks, and the kids loved him.

It doesn't sound like running it back is in the cards. The Hawks don't want to take playing time away from the youngsters, and Carter is looking for an actual role, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore. He's earned that preference.

Forty-two-year-olds aren't getting anyone over the hump, but Carter is very much plug-and-play. Over 55 percent of his attempts last season came as catch-and-fire triples, on which he shot 39.5 percent. And while he isn't mobile enough to harass pure wing scorers, he has the staying power to tussle with bigger assignments.

Atlanta even experimented with lineups featuring Carter at PF. The defense wasn't great during those minutes. It also wasn't any worse than usual.

Relative to the Hawks' overall defensive rating, in fact, it was actually an improvement.

Best Fits: Chicago, L.A. Clippers, Portland

I want him on a contender. I wanna see him go out with a ring.

That's not what Vince wants.

Vince doesn’t want a ring? I wasn’t suggesting he should sign with a contender to sit.

he's said many times he has no interest in ring chasing or sitting on any team's bench. He wants to go somewhere he can play and not just token minutes. That's not a contender. Heck, it might not even be ATL anymore with all the new wing players.

(Squawk is on the fritz for whatever reason.)

Would seem at this point that Uncle Vince's options should all be known and on his and his agent's table. Not sure what the next shoe-to-drop might be. Maybe we're all waiting for Livingston to make his choice (?).

The latest with Vince Carter’s free agency and the Hawks’ waiting game
Spoiler:
Image

Not even one second passed before John Collins exclaimed, “Hell yes!” when he was asked if he hoped the Hawks would re-sign Vince Carter in free agency. Two sources with the Hawks said Thursday that the team would welcome Carter back if that’s what he chooses to do, but both sources were unsure where Carter stood on a possible return with the Hawks and if he’ll find the perfect situation for him this offseason.

The Hawks currently have two open roster spots, and one of them is reserved for Carter if he wants it.

Head coach Lloyd Pierce has been vocal — and public — about wanting the team to re-sign Carter but not mainly from a pure leadership standpoint.

“I just want the opportunity and whatever rookie is there, I just want to help them flourish and become whatever it is they want to become,” Carter said.

I'd really love to see VC back and working out with Cam. Front office should show VC there are minutes to be had by buying out Crabbe. Give those minutes to VC and let him play alongside Cam on the second unit.

Great !
Certainly better for the young guy than for Carter himself, but if doesn't want to chase a ring, it's all good for him too, he looked like having fun last season.

Great news! When this core eventually wins a championship there will be lots of thanks given to that old guy Vince Carter and how much the young guys learned from him and what that did for the development of the franchise.
