I truly believe that Dennis Schroder has the potential to become a star and the one thing that's stopping him from becoming one is a 3-point shot. He's great at creating his own shot and an above average facilitator. He averaged 19.4 PPG on 17.1 FGA while shooting 29% from 3 last year. He's a career 83% FT shooter so it should be expected that he improves from there. Atlanta could regret trading him away to OKC for basically nothing.

A 3 point shot would help a lot but i'm not sure he'll improve in that area much. His 3 pointer is also slow to launch so he really has to be wide open. Also disagree that he is great at creating his own shot. He's great at blowing by defenders for a layup attempt but not great at pull ups and floaters. His speed is a weapon but without it what's left in his game that's above average?

That sounds harsh. I like Dennis. He's a tough player but we have to realistic. I think he's in a great situation in OKC to become a great 6th man and sometimes starter backing up Russell. Also think there is a lot they can do with Dennis/Russ/PG on the floor at the same time. That's going to be a lot of guys that are hard to stay in front of.

I doubt that he ever achieves that 3-point shot. He's been working on it every offseason since his rookie year and even had Korver there to tutor him but his release is too awkward and slow to make him a prolific 3-point shooter.

Schroder comes in at No. 80 in Sports Illustrated Top 100 list

the Thunder acquired guard Dennis Schroder from the Atlanta Hawks. Sports Illustrated recently released a list of the Top 100 players in the NBA and Schroder came in at No. 80 on that list.

Schröder’s 2017-18 season was a cry for structure. The only thing standing in the way of his using possessions like a superstar was common sense—a luxury, as it turns out, reserved for teams with better alternatives than Atlanta. Absent those, Schröder did as he pleased.

The results were predictably fruitless. Schröder (19.4 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 6.2 APG) put up some of the emptiest numbers in the league last season, considering how little they did for Atlanta’s bottom line. This is emblematic of larger concerns. We know Schröder can beat his man off the dribble and score, but can he bring an offense to balance? Does his passing make his teammates better? Can his length and quickness translate to real defensive benefit? The jury is still out, even within the league. It means something that Schröder is capable of producing at this level, though that “something” varies wildly depending on case and circumstance.

Since Schroder took over the starting point guard job with the Hawks, he has started 145 games over the past two seasons and ended up leading the team in scoring during the 2017-18 campaign with 19.4 points per contest. Schroder also averaged a team-high 6.2 assists while shooting 43.6 percent from the field.

Dennis will do well. His defense will improve because, with fewer minutes, he will not have the worry
of fouling out Being the PG of the second unit, his offense will be easier for him. All this will result in
him looking so much better and people will talk about how we gave him away.

But, remember, he wasn't a great locker room guy here and that he wanted gone, just as Bud did.

OKC Thunder Preseason Previsions: A fresh start could net Dennis Schröder Sixth Man award

Can Dennis Schröder turn a fresh start with the OKC Thunder into Sixth Man of the Year honors? Or, will Schröder’s baggage be too much to overcome?

With training camp around the corner, Presti spoke to the media ahead of the rest of the players and head coach. Asked about Schröder Presti made an interesting remark:

He’s only 24 and his best basketball is way in front of him, and you know, obviously for him, like maybe the biggest impact he can have on our team right away is defensively and he has the chance to be an elite defender and we’ve got to get him back to that.

What is most striking about the statement is Presti described Schröder as an elite defender. Dennis possesses a career defensive rating (DRTG) of 109. Over the past five years, Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams have had a strong hold on Sixth Man with Eric Gordon being the only other player to win the award over the past half decade. Three stats immediately jump out from the previous five winners stat lines: points per game (PPG), field goal percentage, and free throw percentage.

Schröder’s statistics from last season stack up for the most part.

In conclusion, given Schröder buys into his role in Oklahoma City, and his level of play is similar to the 2017-18 season; the only thing that will prevent Schröder from winning SMOY is starting too many games in Westbrook’s indefinite absence.

Any good player is a big upgrade from Melo.

Dennis is not a typical cast off. He still young enough and he's definitely good enough with room to go.

Whelp...he seems to have developed into a pretty desirable player at this point.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Lakers and Thunder have agreed in principle to a trade that sends Dennis Schroder to Los Angeles in exchange for Danny Green and the 28th overall pick in this week's draft. 

Shortly after it was reported that the two teams were in serious discussions regarding a trade, it's being reported that an agreement has been reached. While Green was a valuable wing defender for the Lakers, the team has a need for another perimeter playmaker to fill. And Green's shooting struggles during the team's run to the championship didn't help matters, either. With Oklahoma City set to begin a rebuild, it's fair to wonder if Green won't ultimately be moved to a team that aims to be a contender. The trade can't be officially completed until Wednesday as the Lakers' first-round pick is involved, and the team moved its 2019 first in the Anthony Davis deal. The Lakers stand to save about $1.9 million in cap space with this transaction, which could help fortify the roster as they look to repeat as champions.
