The Hawks will be without John Collins for at least the first three games of the regular season with a left ankle injury. He is expected to be out at least 10 days.

Collins had an MRI exam on Monday that revealed mild inflammation and soreness in his left ankle. He underwent a non-surgical procedure that day, described as an injection by a person familiar with the situation. He will be re-evaluated on Oct. 22.

Collins, the second-year power forward and expected starter, experienced left ankle soreness that forced him out of the Hawks second exhibition game against the Grizzlies on Oct. 5. He missed the final three exhibition games, including Friday’s preseason finale at the Heat.

There were indications that Collins could miss the start of the regular season after he missed Wednesday’s exhibition against the Spurs.

“He’s obviously got something going with the ankle,” head coach Lloyd Pierce said before that game. “I’m not smart enough to know the terms. I just know it’s an ankle concern. He will be out. He won’t play either of the two (remaining) preseason games. Just trying to get him ready.”

In his one-plus games this preseason, Collins averaged 11.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Great question.

I honestly don't see an obvious answer. So, I'll guess a rotating 5th starter for the first few games.

I'd lean toward moving Taurean to PF and adding another ballhandler to the starting 5.

(Bembry, Lin or Dorsey)

I think Poythress has a chance at PF. He's a little small but plays pretty strong.

Depends on match-ups. Vince the wiley vet vs Omari to young pup.

VC has started the last two games, very likely that continues.

Man, this sucks, but good for the tank I guess?

* Forward John Collins will have his ankle injury re-evaluated on Tuesday. The second-year power forward has missed the first three games of the season due to the injury, which required a non-surgical procedure. The original diagnosis called for a re-evaluation on Monday but the Hawks were off following the season-opening trip.

We need him back big time. We don't get to play the Cavs every game.

The Hawks will be without John Collins for Wednesday’s home opener and beyond as the power forward deals with an ankle injury. Collins will miss several more weeks with a return date that is likely in early November, according to a person familiar with the situation. He would miss nine more games with a return likely in the second week of November.

Collins has not yet returned to on-court activity and will need to work his way back into playing shape before a return is possible.

What the heck, was it a high-ankle sprain? I suffered one of those and was out for at least a couple of months.
