I'm super nervous about this. French Frank will be trying his best to shut down Trae the minute he crosses half court. (Maybe sooner.)
I honestly can't begin to predict how this plays out...

No need to be a nervous nellie - it's Game 1 of 82. Long season.

Them NY boys already licking their chops at the prospect of French Frank stealing Young Trae's lunch money...
NOTE: I actually think French Frank could make a great backcourt mate with Trae...should he ever improve that jumper.

It's all learning right now for our young guys. I'm not worried about Trae. He just needs to play his game and he'll be fine.

What TF is there to be nervous about? All that means is French Montana'll be in foul trouble early.

Exactly. He had 21 and 11 against Frank in SL. Knicks are really, really bad. Especially on defense. Trae is very confident right now. I think he plays well in his regular season debut. I'm not worried about the SUPER overhyped defense of Frank N. I mean, they hype up his defense because his offense is so trash.

What I find encouraging is how quickly the Hawks players were able to build chemistry. With only 2 weeks of training camp and 5 preseason games. And only 7 returning players (only 5 of which are in rotation - Baze, Prince, Collins, Bembry, .. and Dedmon who has not played yet)

It's been a long summer. Great to finally have the Hawks back.

Early season I'm sure a lot of guys will get in the game but realistically I think the only guys that are really legit rotation players at this point are :
Trae/Lin Baze/Bembry Prince Vince Len
That's pretty thin. I'd make the case for Poythress, and Plumlee at least has experience. The rest are green although hopefully Omari could be ready. Still it's going to be tough against more veteran teams until Collins and Dedmon and Anderson are ready.

Good point and highlights why I think we'll ultimately lose games. Lack of depth of talent.
We won't be out there like the Seventy-Tankxers kicking the ball around trying to lose. I expect us to play relatively well but ultimately succumb to lack of depth.
I could see NYK, having enough NBA-experienced players, flounder because they suck but end up eeking out like a 6pt win or w/e.

I'm nervous that Young Trae isn't ready yet. And going into the bright lights of NYC without his #1 option (Collins)...Trae's first game (first week) could produce some ugly stat lines.
He shot 39% in pre-season.

Frank shot 36% for the season last year.
Trae has a lot to learn but he is ready. He won't be an all-star out of the gate but the talent is skills are there. He needs the experience.

well, yeah. French Frank is terrible at offense.
I hope you're right about Trae. It took him a few SL games to get going.
It took him a few pre-season games to get going.
I think Trae struggles the first week. Hits his stride by December. And then falls apart down the stretch of January/February. Similar to what we saw in college last season.

Not it didn't. He was basically fine in preseason game 1. Now you're just being a worry wart.
Look, it's time to get into regular season mode. Right now you're winded and we've only gone up-and-down the court like 3 times. Did you do any offseason conditioning, @jamallll? Get it together.

I think he'll hit the rookie wall. Especially if he's playing 30 minutes a night. But what we saw in college was 90% a function of opponents not really needing to guard anyone else on OK. He still had monster games down the stretch though. Just when you're Trae Young people say things like he ONLY had 15/7 this game. What's wrong with him?!!!
