'Swole' might be over stating it.

But less scrawny, for sure.

I love watching Trae play and I think he’s already a great player, but when he flexes after an and1 I just can’t help but laugh at the kid. C’mon man... just go hit the free throw. Definitely not “swole”

Deciphering the salary cap for the Atlanta Hawks before free agency

Ignoring free agent cap holds for the moment, Atlanta has $95,339,491 in Team Salary on their books across 13 contracts. Jaylen Adams only has $100,000 of his contract guaranteed, so if Atlanta wants to waive him to free up $1,316,852 in cap space they can (roster charges only come in to play when there are fewer than 12 contracts). I am going to assume Adams stays on the roster for the time being.

With the conservative estimate of $109 million for the Salary Cap, that leaves Atlanta with around $13.66 million in cap space if they renounce all of their free agents. The team doesn’t have to renounce all of the free agents, just enough so that the free agents’ cap holds total fewer than $13.66 million.

The elephant in the room for the off-season is how Atlanta may or may not be involved in the Lakers’ pursuit of additional cap space.

...if Anthony Davis is willing to reduce his trade bonus then there could be a situation where Wagner/Kuzma/Bonga/Jones are up for grabs and could be routed to Atlanta. But this is a big if and shouldn’t be viewed as likely.

Sounds like somebody is jealous of Trae “Gains” Young. Traening Young, if you will

There's a lot of value if it works that way. Hawks can clear cap if they want/need to

2019 NBA free agency: Needs and potential fits for every Eastern Conference team
Here's a look at the upcoming summer for the teams in the East

Atlanta Hawks

Needs: Rim protection, back-up point guard, veteran leadership

Potential fits: Devin Harris, Dewayne Dedmon, Vince Carter

After their past two drafts, the Hawks appear to be on the right path in their rebuild, and don't figure to be big players in free agency this summer. A few small deals here and there, perhaps, but they'll have more flexibility next summer when a number of expiring contracts come off their books.

An abridged version of the article.

Leroux 2019 Offseason Team Previews: Atlanta Hawks

Here are three key storylines to watch for Atlanta this offseason:

Cap Space: While Schlenk has already cut their available space from $40 million to $14 million through a series of trades, there are still choices to make.

Timeline: Along similar lines, Schlenk will need a clear vision of how he intends to approach the next few seasons to properly set the table for the next great Hawks team. Atlanta is ready to open up a massive amount of cap room for 2020...Collins will not get his raise until 2021 and Young in 2022, so there is a window for management to add talent without massive long-term consequences but when they choose to strike will shape both who is available and whether they end up with a viable, deep roster.

Dwayne Dedmon: Coming off a two-year, $14 million contract with the Hawks, Dedmon could end up being a calibrator for how Schlenk sees Collins’ role evolving over the next few years....It is entirely possible that the front office sees the combination of Collins, Alex Len and Omari Spellman as capable of handling the center minutes but retaining Dedmon would add some valuable depth to their rotation.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

State of the Franchise: Building. After the 2019 draft, Schlenk has seven players on rookie scale contracts for the 2019-20 season with only Bembry moving off his in 2020. It may take more time for the front office to evaluate a team this young and their respective fits in Pierce’s system but that low-cost base gives them valuable flexibility both now and after various teams spend their way into oblivion this summer.

How they fill out the remaining roster spots will signal how competitive Schlenk wants to be this season and what he sees as the ideal roles for his collection of intriguing prospects as they head into an exciting and important 2019-20 season.

Kirschner: Hawks quiet in free agency, but they already have nailed their offseason

Travis Schlenk warned Hawks fans that the team, like last year, likely was not going to be among the first few teams to spend its money once free agency opened at 6 p.m. Sunday...a total of $0 has been spent by the Hawks’ front office a few days into the start of free agency. And that’s perfectly OK.

This summer was about acquiring more young talent and adding them to Young, Collins and Huerter. The Hawks accomplished their goal. They have one of the best young, exciting cores in the league and will have more than $60 million in expiring contracts come off the books at the end of this season and room potentially to sign two max-level players next summer.

If there has been a disappointment from a Hawks standpoint so far, it’s seeing Golden State re-sign center Kevon Looney to a very team-friendly three-year, $15 million deal. Looney is only 23 years old and fits the timeline of the Hawks’ young players and would have been an excellent addition to this roster.

The loss of Dedmon hurts the Hawks. He is an ideal center to play alongside John Collins as a spacing big whom head coach Lloyd Pierce credited for helping the team solidify its identity. Alex Len is not the long-term answer for the Hawks at center. And most of the big-man market already has dried up.

I’d still like to see us sign Bender and maybe offer Lyles whatever we have left to see if the Jazz match. Two bigs who were very good prospects and maybe we could coach them up. Two year deals in the $6m range for each would be enough to offer.

So what is the issue with the deals revolving around the Lakers/Pelicans now? Kinda ridiculous that the Lakers are holding this up and the other teams are expected to "work" with them.

No hold up....the league office has to review and process each trade in the order they are received. That's why the Crabbe deal was finalized to.

The nba needs to change when the start of their season is. It is ridiculous that you have a draft where players put on the wrong hats and then have to wait a month to officially be recognized by their new team. Hou have summer league going on and teams can't showcase some of their young guys
