STURT: I remember the old Washington Senators of the American League. It was said of them;
Washington - - First in war. First in peace. Last in the American League!

Our pitching staff is iffy along with our manager. What in heck do the Braves see in Tyler Flowers? Or Josh Donaldson?

Flowers is a solid backup catcher/spot starter. Donaldson is a good fill-in 3B for this season until Riley is ready. He also gives us power in this lineup which is needed.

Best we can do when your ownership refuses to spend.

Flowers and Donaldson start according to the depth chart

He wasn't saying Donaldson is a bench player, just a good guy to have start this year while we wait on Riley to hopefully be ready next year. We only signed him to a one year contract. His health is a concern, but he was actually solid with the Indians at the end of the season last year. Hit .280 and a .920 OPS (3 HR in 16 games). Flowers and McCann will platoon based on lefty/right match ups and general health. I wasn't thrilled with the offseason either, but we don't have much money and we do have a lot of young talent. We may not win the division, but I fully expect this team to be in contention for at least a wild card spot.

Look at Donaldson's numbers in Toronto prior to his injury plagued 2018. If he continues that production then he'll be at worst our 3rd best hitter. He's only a few years removed from winning MVP.

Flowers is just a good value catcher. He's not as exciting as some others we could have signed or traded for, but his pitch framing is elite. That counts for more than you may think.

That said, I wish we did more this offseason. I expect we'll be better than last season, but so will our competition.

Flowers hit .227 last year and .143 this spring and can't throw out other catchers stealing
Donaldson hit .130 this spring

No one makes veteran personnel decisions based on spring training stats.

We are gonna love Donaldson. Have a friend whose a Jays fan and he also played for my hometown A’s. The guy just loves the game and plays hard. Excellent signing for us as long as he stays healthy.perfect veteran leader for our youngsters.

Vegas MLB team wins:

Braves 85.5 O/U

I just put a cool $105 to win $100 on the Braves OVER 85.5 wins.

Let’s go Bravos!

Was disappointed we didn't sign an ace that we badly needed, however, I understand the front office is looking beyond just this year, and we are still stacked with prospects. Overall I like the way this team is made up. We will be able to have good leverage either as buyers or sellers at the deadline depending on how our Donaldson gamble turns out.

Yeah, our offense was highly ranked last season and our pitching was off and on. I'm upset we didn't add an ace or pitching depth in the BP. I hope Donaldson pans out to his old self this year. Errors and walks cost us the game today.
