Free Agent players not as Sexy as this year though.
Maybe we trade for a disgruntled star with our capspace.

Atlanta Hawks: Punt on 2019 Free Agency, Become Go-To Destination in 2020

The Hawks have the money to be big spenders this summer, with over $49 million in cap space.

While the money is right, no big stars are heading to Atlanta. At least, not yet.

Trae Young should be on the recruiting trail next summer when the Hawks will see another $32 million come off their books as Kent Bazemore and Miles Plumlee become free agents. If Atlanta stays away from any dumb signings this summer, it'll have two max salary spots in 2020 with some extra change to spare.

By that time, Young and John Collins should be borderline All-Stars and will make Atlanta one of the hottest free-agent landing spots in the NBA.

Can't emphasize this enough.

Us waiting until 2020 seems to be the consensus. As is ATL as a future Free Agent hot spot because of Trae (and Collins).

This is...wonderful news. What a difference a year makes.

That would be great if there were any 2020 UFAs seriously worth salivating over. The only one deserving of that distinction already has made pretty clear who he prefers, and if he somehow comes here, he'll replace fan favorite John Collins.

I'm tired of the hope of next year. Who knows how we will be perceived by then. Make something happen Atlanta.

There's one specific potential 2020 Free Agent I'm very curious about:

Tommy Beer wrote:Potential Restricted Free Agents:

Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, Buddy Hield, Pascal Siakam, Jamal Murray, Dejounte Murray, Kris Dunn, Caris LeVert, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Dario Saric, Domantas Sabonis, Malik Beasley, Taurean Prince
Forbes

I'm really interested to see where he ends up.

Has Supes seen #6? Oh dear...please..

Anthony Davis remains an intriguing fit with Trae...remote possibility though.

I love the list at the bottom!

Jaylen Brown- Always wanted him as a Hawk. Saw him play a few times at Cal and loved the style. Unfortunately I don’t like where he landed. Same goes for Marcus Smart. I wish they weren’t Celts.

Buddy Hield- Hes a fit and a dangerous one having him at the 2 with Huerter sliding to the 3. Shooters shooter and more shooters! Having said that, Sac locks him up.

Domantas Sabonis- I think a bunch of us want him, I know lw3 and Bird. He had a bad playoff run overall but I love what he brings to the table. Fundamental ball. Having said that I’m very happy with John Collins plus I think he stays in Indy. He has a character that fits in well with a small market.

Malik Beasley- Kg’s boy! Last year? I like this guy. Straight attacks the basket with power, balance and purpose. Another thing: HE CAN RUN!!! All day with Trae and our style of ball. By 2020, he may have made more of a name for himself. Time will tell.

Andre Drummond possibly?!

The hope would be to have Collins able to knock down 3's consistently at that time, and this would allow Drummond to have all the room inside he needs to operate. Drummond gobbling up every offensive board would allow our offense to maximize every possession.

that 2020 group is not that great and most teams are not going to allow those players to just walk anyway. Those players who are leaving will get traded next season anyway.

"You have the young players currently on your roster who project to be superstar players. " - Schlenk

I guess that answers that. Travis has his guys. Now we build around them.

The remaining problem here is unrestricted free agency is and will remain booty in 2020. Maybe you can lure in a restricted guy, but it's much harder there.

So, you're persuaded by that comment that Schlenk considers at least two of his current young players to evolve into superstars?

Me, too.

But does Schlenk consider a "superstar" to be the same as what he's called a "cornerstone?"

That's the different and pivotal question.

I have no doubt that Young and Collins are going to be annual ASG participants as far as Schlenk is concerned (and many of us, for what that matters)... does that constitute "superstar-dom" from where the Colonel sits?

We'll likely have a much more convincing clue once we see the decisions he makes on draft night... both in terms of selections and trades that he chooses to make or not.

I think in terms of free agency, we're smarter to just be satisfied to wait until 2021.

I dont really see the sense in parsing superstar and cornerstone. Maybe there's a difference but more likely they are interchangeable.

To me there's a clear difference between all star and superstar. An all star probably isnt the cornerstone of a franchise but a superstar certain should be.
