Jru Holiday extension

As Charania reported, the extension is worth $160 million in total, but that includes roughly $25 million in bonuses. According to a league source, $4.1 million of those bonuses are deemed likely, while $20.9 million of the bonuses are deemed unlikely. As covered in a breakdown of Holiday’s previous contract in our Bucks trade deadline primer, “unlikely bonuses” are negotiated incentives for hitting team goals or individual benchmarks the player did not achieve the previous season. When taking the non-guaranteed money off the total, the guaranteed salary in the contract counts for roughly $135 million through the 2024-25 season (with a player option in the fourth and final season).

Dane Moore: Anthony Edwards says it’s on the players, not the coach, for the Timberwolves to start playing defense: “Coach can’t come on the floor. He can’t do **** but tell us what to do… ****, he just saying words. We gotta go out there and do the ****. Defense is effort.”

Even if it's just 1%- to 5% these guys are fulfilling a dream. Kevin Garnett was close until Alex Rodriguez put a good business team together.

RJ Barrett was my top pick coming out of that 2019 Draft class. While he is no Zion, RJ looks like the future All Star I was expecting. Lots of players from that draft class have had big improvements in year 2.

Vanessa Bryant, Kobe Bryant estate elect not to renew partnership with Nike

With Kobe Bryant's five-year, post-retirement endorsement extension with Nike having expired this month, Vanessa Bryant and the Kobe Bryant estate elected not to renew the partnership, she confirmed to ESPN in a statement Monday night.

"Kobe's Nike contract expired on 4/13/21," Vanessa Bryant, widow of the Lakers legend, told ESPN. "Kobe and Nike have made some of the most beautiful basketball shoes of all time, worn and adored by fans and athletes in all sports across the globe. It seems fitting that more NBA players wear my husband's product than any other signature shoe."

According to a source, Bryant and the estate had grown frustrated with Nike limiting the availability of Kobe product during his retirement and after his January 2020 death in a helicopter crash. There was also frustration with the lack of availability of Kobe footwear in kids sizes, according to sources.

Whooooo

I'd have a hard time paying Randle anywhere near max-money. He deserves a pay raise, undoubtedly. But I have a hard time paying huge sums of cash on players that:

a) can't lead you to contention alone
b) don't have a long history of elite production
c) can be easily replaced via trade/free agency.

NBA star Kevin Durant invested in Coinbase in 2017 — his stake is now worth 53 times what it was worth then

It’s unclear how much Durant invested in Coinbase back in 2017, but he has made million-dollar investments in the past, including a $1 million investment in Postmates before its sale to Uber UBER, +2.20% in 2020. A $1 million investment in Coinbase in 2017 would be worth over $53 million today.
