Sounds like a plan but have a plan if New Orleans decides not to match.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope back to Georgia makes sense to me. Veteran player that can defend and I like his energy.

I was fairly high on KCP during his Det days, but have soured on him since. I mean 15-16 one year makes alot of sense. He seems like a very decent fit next to Trae.

It's the opposite for me, I was not high on him at DET because he has negative impact, they were playing better without him than with him, but I was impressed by his energy with the Lakers. Still, his inconsistency hurts, he was a bit of a X-factor for the Lakers because most of the time, if he has a good game (not scoring only), they won, if a bad game, they lost, and I'm not a fan of this, and not sure about his mentality

I'd like for us to pursue Justin Holiday in free agency. He played for Indiana this season. He managed to get his 3-point % up just above 40%.
He has been a journeyman and at 30 yrs old I would think he would hope for a 2-3yr deal with a team. He's much improved since the 15-16 season when he played 26 games for Atlanta.

It would depend on cost and number of years for both. Both can adequately fill a role off the bench that fits our need
KCP - short term contract in the MLE range. 2yrs/$18 million (Team option year 2)
DJJr - I see him getting around $5-6 million per, and that's generous. Something like 3yrs/$15 - $18 million.

Under the radar signing (if we wanna be cheap about it but continue to groom a 2nd round point guards from the 2020 draft, i.e. Quickley, Jones, Riller etc.).

JJ Barea- Can teach Trae how to annoy everybody forever. Invaluable. Cuban will sign him back.

Ok, but I think Trae is already annoying defenders with his other-worldly dribling and pasing, Then he hits a 30 foot three. Then he goes between the defenders legs. Trae is the new most annoying player in the league and for Hawks fans that's great news

Agreed but you have to remember one key thing, you can always be more annoying. Look at that big buck too Green in the bay, he’s been on the annoying level since day 1 but has elevated annoyance to a whole new level. Bill Laimbeer, you think he gave up when Nique wanted to karate chop him down, nope. Trae is annoying as crap and I love it, we finally have a player to piss off the world. Either you are with us or against us.

Every NBA Team's 2020 Free-Agency Big Board

Atlanta Hawks

Image

  • Brandon Ingram (restricted)
  • Joe Harris
  • Bogdan Bogdanovic (restricted)

Potential Brandon Ingram pursuits may be a futile endeavor. Quality restricted free agents are impossible to poach, and tying up cap space in a player you won't get is a good way to miss out on other opportunities.

The Atlanta Hawks have the flexibility not to care. They can tender Ingram a max offer sheet at roughly $27.3 million and still have more than $15 million with which to play, depending on how they handle their own free agents. If all they do is ensure the New Orleans Pelicans pony up Brinks-truck money to keep their star, then so be it.

At the same time, this isn't a matter of setting an undefined market. Ingram is getting a max offer, if not from Atlanta then from one of the other few teams with the necessary space. New Orleans might even give it to him before he has the chance to shop around. It has the right to match whatever offer he receives, and cutting out the song-and-dance portion of restricted free agency helps build goodwill between franchise and star.

Chasing Ingram is instead a sign-and-trade play. The Hawks have all the space, but the Pelicans aren't letting him walk for nothing. Giving up cap room and then assets on top of that would sting a little, but Ingram is worth the trouble. He is both a secondary creator and from-scratch scorer, someone who can genuinely allow Trae Young to get moving off the ball. Atlanta shouldn't hesitate to put the No. 6 pick and its young wings—Kevin Huerter, De'Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish—on the table if New Orleans gets pocket-shy.

Pivoting to Joe Harris and Bogdan Bogdanovic is no less ambitious. It'll take serious money to scare the Brooklyn Nets or Sacramento Kings, respectively, out of keeping their own. The Hawks have that kind of cash and can use both. Harris guarantees spacing for what was the league's worst three-point shooting team this past season, while Bogdanovic can manufacture his own looks and alleviate Young's ball-handling burden.

I watched several NOP games this season, Ingram looked like the leader of this team, but they were not dominating with him on the floor. If Williamson hadn't miss games, we would not have heard so much about him and he wouldn't have had the Most Improved Player title.
It's a situation thing, that's all. If Kuzma had been dealt instead of Ingram, Ingram would have get Kuzma stats with LAK, and Kuzma would have shined with NOP, and maybe got the MIP title.

He has no team defense, and would create a defensive problem with ATL, he's exactly the kind of player we should not give a Max contract, his stats would end being lower than Collins and Young, and they will be both asking Max and some other players will ask more than they should because Ingram.

I've been reading through free agents and I have compiled my list of the ones I'm interested in. Obviously, these all depend on the type of contracts they require and "get-ability" of all the free agents, but I have tried to create tiers. The top tier is full of the top scorers, markmen and defenders that I think could fit right in as a starter on our squad. The next tiers are more specialist/situational contributors:

Top: Austin Rivers, Joe Harris, Jerami Grant, KCP, Brandon Ingram, Davis Bertans
Second: Skal Labissiere, Gordon Hayward, Otto Porter Jr, Paul Millsap, Jeff Teague, Kent Bazemore
Interesting: Kris Dunn, Christian Wood, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Jones Jr, Jae Crowder, Mo Harkless, Andre Roberson

I'd be happy as anything if we could somehow land Rivers, Grant, KCP this off season. It's possible given how little everyone else has to spend.

Thoughts?

Starting the list with Austin Rivers just...well it makes me sad.

I like Grant, Bertans, Harris and Dunn at the right price.

It was in no particular order within the tiers. Grant is my top target. Austin would be a great backup to Trae, but if he's too expensive I'd resign Teague on the cheap. I doubt Teague will get more than something like 2yrs at $4m per year. KCP is a great 3 & D complement that this team needs.

I think they go after Joe Harris. He's a tougher, harder nosed version of Huerter and better shooter at range. Huerter coming off the bench opposed to Bembry makes a world of difference to that unit.

According yo reports today Steve Nash sat Joe down and assured him he'll be signed longterm and that he's going to be used.
