What about trading 4 to Chicago for 7 and something else, like a future first? If ATL wants to make sure they get one of Hunter or Culver, good chance one of them is still there at 7 with Chi and PHX both picking guards. Only have to fade Cleveland in that scenario.

The Atlanta Hawks have acquired the No. 4 pick in Thursday's NBA draft from the New Orleans Pelicans for the No. 8, 17 and 35 picks, league sources told ESPN.

The Pelicans are sending Solomon Hill, the No. 57 pick and a future second-round pick to Atlanta in exchange.

Atlanta is also sending Cleveland a heavily protected first-round pick in 2020 to the Pelicans, sources said.

Atlanta is pursuing Virginia's De'Andre Hunter with the No. 4 pick, sources told ESPN.

For those of us persuaded that the tier #4 - #12 is essentially an evenly talented group, it's irrational to go all-in on #4 like this.

I know so I am in the minority but I would have preferred to see the Hawks keep their top 3 picks unless they could have made the same trade for the 3rd pick! But, If they had to make this trade I sure wish they could have kept their #8 pick (And, I know they tried!)! I know I am just being GREEDY!!! They must really like (Hunter, Culver, etc) whoever they are targeting!

The saving grace to me in something like this is that the GM apparently is *that* persuaded that he's right, and the GM is someone with a track record of being right.

It definitely asserts once and for all that Schlenk is persuaded that Trae Young will be a cornerstone elite player in the league some day.

This isn't the high ceiling pick that the rest of us (ie, those who aren't yet persuaded) felt had to be made.

Hunter is Schlenk's guy, and it looks like Schlenk is making the move to go get him. He's earned my trust as far as the draft is concerned, and I'm excited that we kept 10 in the deal. They obviously didn't want to make four picks so I'm not upset about losing 17 and 35 as much, and that Cavs pick was about to turn into second rounders anyway.

I'm still wishing on a star that there's a #10 for #14/#20 swap with BOS out there.... I hate seeing us lose out on Bruno, I really do, and I don't see Schlenk grabbing him at #10.

One thing that we all have to realize is that elite defenders are valuable. Him and Zion are the only guys in the lottery who are near locks to be game changers defensively
