No. Why trade Kent now? He could've gotten a bit more at the trade deadline.

Yeah I don't understand this one. Sure Kent had some shortcomings on the court, but he loved this team and this city.
I haven't followed Turner in years... Could it be a situation where we're bringing in a guy to help mentor Hunter and Reddish? Does Turner's play style match up better than Baze's?

Agree totally.

Perhaps Baze asked to be sent somewhere he could contribute. Not sure why that would be POR but whatever.

A rare miss by Schlenk. I can see the logic (backup PG for a redundant wing) but both from a talent and locker room standpoint Baze is far better.

Could he? We seem to have this idea for the past several seasons that teams will swap expirings with us and give us value...and it has been proven false.

The players are VERY similar. Bazemore is a bit better at the 3, Turner is a bit better shooting overall. I wonder if we are going to have ET be our primarily backup 1/2/3. He has experience and is slightly better at handling the ball than Bazemore and has more experience at the 3.

I hate this. I don't see the point.
I dislike Turner and his punchable face.

I'm a miss Baze, for real! The person, and the philanthropist, 5000x as much as the player. Cap space tho!

And, heck, you want a perfect NBA landing spot for Bazemoring and The Baze Gaze? KEEP. PORTLAND. WEIRD!!!

Besides the punchable mug, I can't see E.T. and not unsee when Jeff skated all around him in the playoffs versus Indiana.

Baze is truly gone, it's crazy when u come that realization. Bembry is last man standing from the budcox Era.

If they cut turner I think it opens several mill in space.

A little late-season minutiae regarding the $18 Million Man...

I don’t hate this. I think they are similar in value and Turner gives us a better ball handler on the 2nd unit. Turner is much more fluid than Baze and plays within his own game, so even though I think Baze is more talented I think Turner is better for the team. Watching the manic 2nd string backcourt of Baze and Bembry just gave me anxiety. With Turner and Bembry we will still get the fun-to-watch insanity that is Bembry on the court, but we’ll have it balanced by the fluidity of Turner out there with him.

No it won't. Turner makes $18.6 - Hawks still has to pay him and he counts against the cap. Hawks save a measly $600k on this deal.
Edit: unless there is a Turner buyout around $5 mil or so, This trade is useless.

Not sure how to embed a tweet but here goes - Pretty much, Schlenk and Pierce view the 6'7" Turner as a back up PG and were looking to clear out minutes at the 2 & 3.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">More on the Bazemore-Turner deal: The Hawks wanted to clear space on the wing to get Hunter/Reddish/Huerter more minutes. They see Turner in the backup PG role. The move also allows Bazemore to play on a contender.</p>&mdash; Chris Kirschner (@ChrisKirschner) <a href="

https://theathletic.com/906597/2019/04/05/we-all-love-him-in-evan-turners-most-trying-season-the-blazers-have-his-back/

Inside the Blazers’ locker room, Turner is held with almost as much regard as team captain Damian Lillard.

“We all love him,” Zach Collins said.

They love him because throughout his time in Portland, but in particular this season, Turner has revealed himself in personal and touching ways, in the process becoming the catalyst for the team’s renowned chemistry.

In September, he invited rookies Anfernee Simons and Gary Trent Jr. to his home to be fitted for custom suits, Turner’s treat. He did it not only so the teenagers would look presentable on the bench, but also to educate them on how to go about looking professional.

Baze will be that same cat up in PTL. For just $650,000 more.

I figured we don’t owe Turner any minutes. We need to free up minutes for Cam, Huerter, and Hunter and Baze would have eaten up about 20 per game. I see Turner getting 2-5 minutes a night.

Not spectacular. Get a backup PG (essentially), free up time for Reddish, move Baze to a competitive team.

Portland fan here. From everything I’ve heard ET is a great locker room guy, one of our best character guys in Portland so I wouldn’t worry too much in that respect.

Talent wise I think Kent is a better but at the same time we are talking about 2 very overpaid players so I think there was a limited market of guys trying to trade for either of these contracts. Could Atlanta have gotten more if they waited? Possibly but I also don’t think it would’ve been a huge return either unless a team was just looking to add an expiring but then et is in the same position at this point so that factor is a wash
