Bye Omari Spellman
For Damian Jones and a second rounder.
Hopefully they can get him in shape and he can contribute. I had a feeling he wouldn’t be sticking around too much longer.

It was inevitable cause his weight keeps swinging. I was high on Jones at Vandy, but this dude could never develop beyond running and jumping so far.

Spellman will eat himself out of an NBA rotation in a couple of years.

So why the hell were we selling 2nd round draft picks last month?
Seems like any of Bol Bol, Jontay Porter, Daniel Gafford, Eric Paschall could have been useful in his spot in the future.

Yeah, I don't like our second round strategy at all!
But for those who hate that Omari is gone, I'm sure he left TS with no choice. Truth is that if you're told to get in shape and that's your JOB...do what you gotta do. Pretty sure they don't want that work ethic around the future players.
Hope he gets it together but....buffets are hard to overcome.

I'm not sure TS did this to punish or give up on OMari. Seems more like clearing some youth from a suddenly crowded front court. And helping his old team load up on cheap young talent.

Oh I agree with that. Just wish that Omari would have left this team with a no doubt choice to keep him.

24/7 SportsWarriors trade for Omari Spellman
The Golden State Warriors are trading Damian Jones and a second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Omari Spellman according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The deal is the latest in a series of moves that the Warriors have made with an eye on grabbing undervalued but highly drafted talent.
In Golden State, the Warriors will hope to mold Spellman into a backup for Draymond Green who can defend a few positions and make open shots for the foreseeable future. With three years left on his rookie deal, he could be a great value moving forward.
The Warriors have been ambitious in reshaping their roster this offseason. In Spellman, they've found another project. With their infrastructure, there's a good chance that they can turn him into a better player than the Hawks, especially with such a young roster, ever could have.

Re: Bye Omari Spellman
The AthleticAlec Burks and Omari Spellman are in and Damian Jones is out as Warriors’ roster tweaking continues
..the Warriors also traded Damian Jones and a second-round pick to Atlanta for Omari Spellman.
Maybe Spellman proves to be of help. He’s got some skill and feel for the game but struggled quite publicly with his weight and conditioning last season. It appeared unlikely that the Hawks would pick up his $2 million third-year option for the 2020-21 season, a decision that must be made by the end of October. Unless he flashes early season glimpses, it’s probably unlikely the reforming Warriors do, either.
But, again, it’s the savings that matter. That $400,000 difference, which cost a second-rounder, gives [Golden State] a little breathing room.

Re: Bye Omari Spellman
Seems, really awkward to get traded to a different team...then have to stick around in the same town seeing your ex coaches, teammates, GM for the rest of Summer League.

NBC Sports -- Bay AreaWhy Omari Spellman believes he has something to prove with Warriors
The 6-foot-9 forward, whom Atlanta selected with the No. 30 pick of the 2018 NBA Draft, had his first chance to speak to the media as a member of the Warriors on Monday night in Las Vegas.
"Yeah, I had a really good workout with the Warriors," Spellman told reporters, mentioning that he felt the Warriors were very interested in him before last year's draft. The big man was a national champion at Villanova and played with Eric Paschall, who Golden State selected with the No. 41 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
"I don't think people give me credit, I feel like I'm better than people think I am."

I think Omari is a good player and will find a role in this league. I was surprised to see him go.

Re: Bye Omari Spellman
Yahoo SportsWhy young Warriors big man Omari Spellman intrigues Steve Kerr so much
The Warriors selected forward Eric Paschall in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft this year, but they actually added two former Villanova big men this offseason.
While the Warriors have high expectations for Paschall as a rookie, coach Steve Kerr is just as intrigued by power forward Omari Spellman, who was a first-round pick just one year ago.
"We were really intrigued by him," Kerr recently told The Athletic's Anthony Slater. "He came in and had a great workout for us. We ended up taking Jacob Evans because we had more of a need on the wing, but we loved Omari. He has a lot of ability."
Kerr believes Spellman can find his role on the Warriors, just like a former fan favorite did.
"Spellman's got a chance to play a role for us," Kerr said to Slater. "Talented kid. It'll be really nice to be able to space the floor with a big. We probably haven't had that since Mo Speights."
Though he played limited minutes and battled weight issues, Spellman made 44 3-point shots last season, nailing 34.4 percent of his attempts from deep. He also shot 43.3 percent from long distance as a freshman at Villanova.
Spellman still is just 22 years old. He's full of skills and [can] completely turn his young career around under Kerr if he stays in shape.
