Hawks hope Collins' return helps end skid vs. Cavaliers

The Atlanta Hawks will get a major piece of their lineup back on Monday when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers. But will the return of forward John Collins be enough to help the young club end its seven-game losing streak? The Hawks were 2-3 when Collins' suspension began and went 4-21 in his absence. They are tied with Golden State for the worst record in the NBA.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are trending in the other direction. They have a chance to pick up their first three-game winning streak of the season. Cleveland defeated Memphis 114-107 on Friday to win back-to-back games for only the second time this season. In its previous attempt to win three straight in mid-November, the Cavs fell one point short against Philadelphia.

This will be the first of four meetings between the Eastern Conference rivals. The Hawks won two of three meetings against the Cavs last season.

TOP PERFORMERS:

Kevin Love is averaging 16.1 points and 10.8 rebounds for the Cavaliers. Jordan Clarkson is averaging 2.6 made 3-pointers and 15.4 points over the last 10 games for Cleveland.

Kevin Huerter is second on the Hawks averaging 3.4 assists while scoring 8.9 points per game. Jabari Parker has averaged 13.4 points and totaled 5.8 rebounds while shooting 49.0 percent over the last 10 games for Atlanta.

LAST 10 GAMES:

Cavaliers: 3-7, averaging 102.5 points, 44.2 rebounds, 23.5 assists, 6.8 steals and 3.9 blocks per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. Their opponents have averaged 115.9 points on 50.9 percent shooting.

Hawks: 2-8, averaging 110.1 points, 41.9 rebounds, 23.2 assists, 7.6 steals and five blocks per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the field. Their opponents have averaged 117.4 points on 48.0 percent shooting.

Any thoughts on who Lloyd will/should keep in the starting lineup?

I'm of the opinion that we simply need wins right now. No goofy experimenting at this point in the season. I go with the starting 5 we intended to from the start:

Len
Collins
Hunter
Huerter
Trae

I'd be ok with that. I'm also not opposed to starting Bruno and have Len off the bench since he seemed more comfortable.
As long as Pierce doesn't go small with JC at the 5, I'm good.

John Collins on return: ‘I would never try to jeopardize what I have here’

“That’s probably been the worst part of this entire experience is going home and having to sit on my couch and watch the guys play as hard as they can and knowing that I’m not able to help, is frustrating,” Collins said Monday in Cleveland.

Bruno recorded a quadruple single last game but I like that he has a positive presence around the paint with the starters.

Trae still lets his ego the get the best of him. Every time he gets scored on by his matchup he wants to give it back.

Trae gets help tonight and lose still, this is getting old, another 10 game losing streak coming.

It doesn't help that Reddish and Carter were 3-12.

Cam seems set on shooting his way out of the slump.

Offense is not our problem. Defense is.
And as much as Cam sucks on offense, his defense was part of the reason we got back in the game.
