Starting to buy into the Brandon Ingram idea more and more. It’s not likely we’ll be ready to make a play at Giannis or Dipo when the time comes and much of the pool in the following years are players who’ll be over the hill and not worthy of a max deal anyway so yeah let’s give it a shot. It’s unlikely Griffin won’t match but we still gotta take a swing.

Also pick up Bertans this summer.

Biggest Need Every NBA Team Must Address at the Trade Deadline

Atlanta Hawks: Modern Center

Image

It's too late for this to become the leap year ATLiens were hoping to see, but the Hawks will never take flight without fixing their center spot. Specifically, they must find a 5 who fits with John Collins, a bouncy 4 who doesn't stretch the floor and, until recently, didn't provide rim protection.

Three-point sniping, shot-blocking big men are dubbed unicorns because they're so difficult to find. Maybe a reunion with Dewayne Dedmon would do the trick—Atlanta has poked around, per The Athletic's Sam Amick—but the 30-year-old is a temporary fix at best, and maybe not even that if he can't reverse the deep decline he's suffered this season.

Atlanta has backed off an Andre Drummond trade, per Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, which makes sense for a few reasons. For starters, he isn't an ideal fit with Collins, since he clogs the paint on offense and can get exposed at the other end. Plus, the Hawks can chase Drummond this summer as a free agent and keep whatever a deadline deal would cost them.

The specific target is tricky to identify, but the need has been obvious dating back to the summer and still has not been addressed.

I really don't know what to do with this?

Can Capela effectively play offense beside J Collins?
The Rockets are engaged in three-way trade possibilities that might allow for them to use Capela to gather the draft assets needed to acquire an impact wing player, league sources said.

Atlanta has been interested in acquiring a starting level center and has talked with Houston about Capela and Oklahoma City about Steven Adams, league sources said.

Hawks still trying to figure out the SG spot next to Trae...interesting.

Chris Kirchner wrote:It’s known around the league that the Hawks are still trying to figure out the best player to pair with Trae Young in the backcourt as they figure out if Kevin Huerter or Cam Reddish could grow into that role.

So now that Capela is in place, what’s next this summer? Who do we add? Do we draft? Do we trade the pick? Do we move forward with this core? Do we add one more big piece?

Ingram. Do it.

We need shooters. Bertans, Joe Harris.

What are opinions on getting Oubre Jr. back? Worth the potential logjam for his defense and energy?

I’m looking at it from a perspective of us likely not getting Giannis or Dipo next year.

Atlanta got its center at the deadline in trading for Clint Capela, and it was a nice pickup to get Dwayne Dedmon behind him. The real question now becomes what does this mean for John Collins? He’s athletic and has played better at the four than the five this season, but is he going to be worth what some team likely will pay him as a restricted free agent in a couple of seasons? Expect a lot of Collins trade rumors this summer.

Hawks beat writer with The Athletic taking off the gloves and dishing some real dirt this week.

Chris Kirchner wrote:I think the only players they are firmly committed to right now are Trae Young and Cam Reddish.

I think everything else is on the table. If they don’t pay John Collins this summer, and I don’t think they will, I could see them trying to see what they can get for him before seeing what his market will look like in 2021. Kevin Huerter had an up-and-down season, but I don’t know if he’s the answer in a backcourt with Young, especially if he can’t improve defensively. They’re probably going to ride it out with De’Andre Hunter because of the amount they paid at the draft. I still think they overpaid for someone who is essentially a glue guy if they keep this young core in place.

I know it’s a weaker draft, but maybe they try to package their pick and one or two of their core young guys and try to take a big swing in acquiring a young and proven vet if they’re trying to really speed things up.
