Grading every player in the Rising Stars

Image

Trae Young
Grade: A-

Game stats
18 points | 4 rebounds | 7 assists | 1 steal

Analysis
The people demanded deep 3-pointers from Young and he obliged, hitting one over RJ Barrett from the edge of the oversized logo and another in the final minutes from similar distance but to the side of midcourt. Though Young shot just 3-of-5 inside the arc, he handed out a game-high seven assists.

The dunk contest was good.
AG was possibly robbed but the contest was entertaining.

Wow!!! I missed that one.
I was hoping for him to make a huge name for himself and win MVP tonight...lol

That 3-pointer is good enough.

I was a little worried about Trae out there at first. From the start of the game, you could tell that he's so used to being the focal point of our offense that he thought thats how it was supposed to be for the All Star Game too, even with all that talent around him. I just hope he doesn't get that Allen Iverson type of mentality in regards to offense, where he just can't handle not being in control.

Nick Nurse is a POS for not subbing anyone in the 4th quarter. No excuse for a voted in starter to only get 15 minutes of run. Of course his two Toronto players were out there the entire 4th quarter.

Team Giannis couldn't score in the 4th. Maybe put the guy out there who had 10 assists in 15 minutes.? And maybe put out the big guy who was 10/11 from the field?

FU NICK NURSE!

Right, it was the best thing to note in this game, hope it can translate to the same thing with Clint

He should have at least try some minutes with Trae, Lowry (who had great defense), Siakam, Giannis, Gobert, and even with Embiid, Trae would have been better than Walker.
Some said the big lineup with Siakam, Giannis, Embiid wasn't working, but it could have, if only Walker was able to hit some shots, but he just missed and lost ball

Both coaches decided to not play Doncic and Trae, but at least Vogel got the excuse with the win. Nurse just gave the win to the West, and the MVP title to his former player

I dont blame Nurse for not playing Trae. He made some costly turnovers earlier, and probably gave Nurse the impression that the pressure was getting to him.

Like how Kemba was chukkin' and dribblin' the ball off his own foot on a key possession late? Or how Lowry basically fouled Team Lebron to victory?

Conversely, I saw how Trae found Gobert for the game-tying alley oop in the closing seconds of the 3rd. Sure, he had some turns but they all had some moments.

True. But Kemba is a veteran. Trae is just a second year player. That last quarter was legit playoff intensity, which Trae has never seen. So Nurse went with his comfort zone.

And it was the wrong move.
They had an 11 point lead, all they had to do was keep pace scoring, they couldn't score because they had no willing and capable passers to set them up for easy buckets. It was empty possessuin after empty possesion. So it became a grind defensively. At least with Trae, the possibility of him logo launching would be an actual threat which would open up the interior.
