Dallas Mavericks -- Fansided
The Mavs face the Atlanta Hawks on the second night of a back-to-back on Feb. 22. The Hawks opened their unofficial second half with a win over the Heat. Expect it to be a hotly contested battle in Atlanta on Saturday. Everyone will be talking about the matchup between Luka Doncic and Trae Young on Saturday night. Young is fresh off dropping 50 points on the Miami Heat. He is a gifted scorer and shooter but struggles on the defensive end. Expect the Mavs to exploit that weakness on Saturday night.
Luka Doncic will be looking to have another monster performance. He missed the first meeting against the Hawks this season

This should be a very winnable game tonight with Luka and Porzingas both ruled out and playing at home.

Re: Game Thread: Mavs @ Hawks -- 2/22/20
so disappointed that Luka isn't playing. Been looking forward to this one since he missed the last one. Not seeing Trae vs Luka all year, during both of their breakout second seasons, really really sucks.
Trae is obviously my #1, but I'm also a huge Luka fan and watch all his games. He's part of my Mt Rushmore of favorite players I have to watch...Trae, Luka, Ja, Lonzo/Zion.

Hey guys I live here and Atlanta and the games are blocked for me this week. I get sound but picture is blacked out. I may need to contact my cable provider?

Hawks do it again!
Monster game from Collins, monster quarter for Trae, and Reddish becoming more and more reliable offensively. Defense overall is chaotic. I love love love it.

I've been watching the games on the fox sports go app. Yahoo is also letting you watch games through their app.

Re: Game Thread: Mavs @ Hawks -- 2/22/20
Great game, turned a horrible game into something memorable with a solid 8 minutes of basketball. That's all it took. Showed a lot of gumption from the team to keep fighting and fighting all night despite not having their fastball and then finally getting into a good groove down the home stretch. That's what good teams do, find a way to win when they play like crap.
And Trae showed once again he's a superstar in this league. Guy has massive cajones, never afraid to take a big shot, always confident. Can heat up in an instant and put 18 on a team in a quarter.

Was going to be a tough win for Dallas on the 2nd half of a b2b without their 2 best players and basically one big against a Hawks team that has been tough at home lately. But it looked like Trae was kinda sleepwalking and I thought Dallas might steal one. Then he's like oh yeah I'm the best player on the court and a terrific offensive player and finished what Collins started.
Not sure why Huerter was so invisible tonight especially with Dallas doubling Trae so far out and playing 3 on 4. I expected him to be the guy that forced Dallas out of that, but total non-factor.
Reddish showed some promise though which had to be nice. Good matchup for him with Dallas having to play so small and good on him for attacking the smaller Dallas defenders all night.

Huerter just couldn't buy a basket, had some wide open looks that just didn't fall. He was effective in the 4th doing the little things 4 steals and 6 assists.
Reddish has been playing well since the calender flipped to 2020. His defense has been special.

True confession time---I want Huerter to go through a huge slump where Atlanta gives up on him and Dallas can sneak in and scoop him up.

and yeah Reddish bust talk may have been premature. If Atlanta can add one more proven NBA starter this summer they might be pretty interesting next year. Especially if Capela/Dedmon can provide some rim protection to help the defense.

Lots of Hawks fans eventually see Huerter as the 6th man with Reddish taking over the starting SG spot next to Trae especially with his defense.
And yes the Reddish is a bust talk - very premature - same with Trae last year.
I don't see Atlanta adding another FA starter, they're rolling with the kids - Trae, Huerter/Reddish, Hunter, Collins, Capela - as the starting lineup. What they'll add is quality veteran bench players.
Our vet bench this year was putrid - Crabbe, Turner, Parsons - they gave us nothing. Vince didn't give us much on the court but was still invaluable in the locker room.
