Russell Westbrook

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Wed Sep 16, 2020 10:36 am

Westbrook's value seem to be low now a days due to his poor playoff performance, injury history, age, and contact, but he is still a dominate force.

Russell Westbrook seems like he could be traded for now without giving up much talent and just giving up cap space.

Is Russell Westbrook a player the Hawks should be thinking about?

Westbrook is one of the hardest players to build around, but when you look at the Hawks' roster, the team has alot of pieces that would fit well with Rus.

I wouldn't go crazy small ball with Rus like what Houston did and trade away Clint, but Trae, Cam, Hunter, Heurter, and Collins are all above average 3pt shooters that can provide alot of spacing for Westbrook.

Hawks pass. To much salary. Wrong type of attitude to bring around the baby Hawks.

I'd actually consider it. Westbrook is a force to be reckoned with. And him manning the SG position next to a passing PG and flanked by 3 & D wings could be useful.

I'd likely pass on it due to that contract, but it's not completely crazy.

Any team that acquires him would have to completely overhaul their offensive approach, and likely encoyrage him to utilize mid range jumpers when opposing defenses clog the lane. I think he'd be better off going to a small market, losing franchise where he could get credit just for taking them to the 2nd round each year. Think CLE, Orlando or Charlotte.

It is alot of cap, but i would consider it because Atlanta is a small market and has zero shot in getting any available MVP free agents like Anthony Davis, KD, Giannis, Embiid, etc... So might as well use the cap on a former MVP.

Rus is a hard guy to build around, but if you where to pick the best PG to pair with him, Trae would be #1.

Rus' attitude is also a concern but the rumor is that Rus has an attitude similar to KG, he crosses the line when the talks trash on the court, but in the locker room he is a leader and good guy.

Hawks can go... Trae, Rus, Hunter, Collins, Clint
Small ball ... Trae, Rus, Cam, Hunter, Collins

Pass. That would be all our capspace for next season on one player (if cap stays at $109 we have $42 mil in capspace). $41 million is Westbrooks salary.
Westbrook thrives with the ball, without it, not so much.
He's also starting to rack up the injuries at 32 years.

Russ named All NBA even in a sub-par, ill-fitting regular season.

Not the best fit considering Westbrook is too "alpha"/selfish to coexist with Trae. I'd look into a top 5 protected future 1st in return and give them a minor asset in Fernando or something for him. Houston would actually have some strong cap space for a 2021 FA to team up with Harden one last go around.
