Rondo’s agent Bill Duffy has been in communication with the Hawks’ front office, and Atlanta does have interest in the 14-year veteran to back up Trae Young.
The Hawks believe Rondo, who will turn 35 this season, can be a veteran leader in the locker room. It should be noted that Rondo was not very good in the regular season for the Lakers last year but did level up in the playoffs. He also did not have much success in previous situations where the team was not in title contention, such as Dallas and Sacramento.
If the Hawks are getting Playoff Rondo, this move makes sense and he could be useful as the operator of the second unit. If they are getting the regular-season Rondo from last season, he doesn’t help the Hawks fight for their goal of reaching the playoffs. Their pursuit of Rondo could change if they draft Haliburton.
