From The Athletic:

Chris Kirchner wrote:SiriusXM’s Frank Isola reported that the Hawks are expected to offer Los Angeles Lakers free agent point guard Rajon Rondo a two-year, $15 million deal when free agency opens. Rondo’s agent Bill Duffy has been in communication with the Hawks’ front office, and Atlanta does have interest in the 14-year veteran to back up Trae Young.

The Hawks believe Rondo, who will turn 35 this season, can be a veteran leader in the locker room. It should be noted that Rondo was not very good in the regular season for the Lakers last year but did level up in the playoffs. He also did not have much success in previous situations where the team was not in title contention, such as Dallas and Sacramento.

If the Hawks are getting Playoff Rondo, this move makes sense and he could be useful as the operator of the second unit. If they are getting the regular-season Rondo from last season, he doesn’t help the Hawks fight for their goal of reaching the playoffs. Their pursuit of Rondo could change if they draft Haliburton.

On a scale of -5 to +5, this off-season is going to rate something like -2 from where I sit if we end up with Rondo as the back-up PG. For what anyone should care. I just do not at all see any value to a 34 yr old with the shortcomings he has always had, and now worse given his age. The only redeeming qualities are that he still can play some defense and that he owns rings, plural... and even then, he's a net negative in my eyes. I would pay no more than the min for him, and would give him a 3rd PG role, if anything at all.
