ATLANTA HAWKS

Grade: B

The 2021 Atlanta Hawks feature several new players that are set to make a big impact. Danilo Gallinari, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Clint Capela all made their debuts. All three seemed to slide right into the system with Trae Young at the helm.
Capela was working in the pick and roll with Young and was able to pull down 14 rebounds. Gallinari came off the bench as a stretch four option and dropped 14 points. Bogdanovic had a quieter night with nine points and four rebounds. All three of these players will provide immense value to the young Eastern Conference team.
Alongside the veterans performing, second-year players Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter showed promising growth on both sides of the floor. Reddish finished with 13 points off the bench which Hunter ended with 18 points. Hunter showed the aggressiveness that he was lacking last year and Reddish had several impactful defensive plays. The future is bright for the Hawks but for the meantime, these preseason games will be a chance to learn and get used to new faces.

After watching ATL playing at his best with both Bogdanovic and Gallinari, I checked the boxscores and looked at the +/- of this game (+11 and +13 respectively), and found that it was already the case in the first game (+10 and +14 for the whole game) :

2nd game

It's only the second game of the preseason, but if it continue like this, it will create some question about the real value of our young guys... especially John and his future contract
If Bogdanovic and his 18M/yr makes more impact than him, I will keep my impression that he will deserve tat best he same than Sabonis, and it makes even more a good idea from Schlenk to have added those kind of players that will help know the value of our young guys who got all the balls last year.
It will avoid us some stupid decision like so many teams did in the past, like offering Max to Fox in a team that did not make the playoffs

With a couple games in the books what's your take on Bogi?

A little early to have a really strong take but ..... when's logic every stopped us from diving in head first, amirite? :)

Seriously though, I like what I see so far. Definitely a guy we needed to upgrade our wing talent.

Seems to clearly be easing into things, getting to know his teammates, etc. so I'm not worried too much about the modest scoring numbers in the first two games.

That stretch in the 3rd quarter where he keyed the 19-0 Hawks run was pretty sweet. Pure stroke. Perhaps an unexpected benefit to his presence is Heurter's had a fire lit under him. He's played really well.

Good, he's getting wide open looks. Finally fell in the 3rd quarter last night.
Not a bad handle, defense like everything needs work....work in progress like the rest of the team.

Precise and thorough. His focus level is high and so is attention to detail. I can see him being popular with the ladies.

If we were to compare Bogs to Huerter, it's just the former is more stronger both mentally and physically. He knows how to get to rim and short mid range area and get his shot off. Simple nuances like that Huerter hasn't figured out.

I was hoping to see Cam and Hunter starting with the rest of the group. Hopefully we see that lineup vs. Memphis.
