the playoff lineup when healthy

Are we allowed to dream about 2 things, making the playoffs and actually being healthy again?

What do you like for our rotation if both of those come true?

I like starting lineup of...

Capela
Collins
Hunter
Bogi
Trae

bench lineup of...

Okongwu
Gallo
Huerter
Lou Will
Dunn

On the bench, but ready to go...
Snell
Goodwin
Reddish
Hill
Knight

Never ever ever under any f-ing circumstances...
Bruno F-ing Fernando

EDIT: forgot about Gallo

Not happy about reducing Snell to a nothing role with the way he's played this year.

Looks good except you’re forgetting a certain backup PF making 20m a year. Switch him for Dunn (putting Lou Will at backup PG) & I agree.

But, do we have to put Solo in there just for some bulk? Talent wise, he has no business being in our top 10, but we really don't have a lot of depth at PF and might need him in there for size.

Starting lineup:
Capela
Collins
Hunter
Bogi
Trae

Bench absolutes:
Gallo, Heurter, Lou and Okongwu

The bench vets who can plug and play and who Nate might feel comfortable playing in multiple scenarios.
Snell and Hill

On the bench, but ready to go...
Reddish - he'd have to come out like he ended last season
Dunn - I have no faith he'll be ready to go
Goodwin
Knight

What about this lineup to give us some balance and playmaking assuming Dunn is done.

Capela
Collins
Hunter
Snell (first sub out, replaced by Bogi who stays out there when 2nd unit comes in)
Trae

Okongwu
Gallo
Huerter
Lou Will
Bogi

really don't like Lou Will as the primary ball handler which is why I threw Bogi in there. Putting Huerter in there as well gives us another possible playmaker.

I say let's ride out Snell's hot streak and see if he can keep hitting catch and shoot 3s off of Trae's drive and kicks.

what I like about Bogi next to Trae is his ability to handle the ball - makes it more difficult for teams to double and triple team Trae the minute he crosses half court.
I'm fine with Lou and Heurter handling the ball for the 2nd unit. Lou is adept at running the PnR so that works.

I'm just burning sage over here in the corner. Y'all counting hawks before they're hatched big time.

I've been an Atlanta sports fan since the 80's, so I've seen enough epic collapses to know not to get too ahead of myself.

I'm so shell shocked I may as well walk around with that grizzled Vietnam vet look Solomon Hill's been rockin' all year.

Lookin' off into space like I'm the only fan in the world.

Every NBA Team's Best 5-Man Lineup This Season

Atlanta Hawks

Image

Lineup: Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, Tony Snell, Danilo Gallinari, Clint Capela

Possessions Played: 78

Adjusted Net Rating: 20.5

John Collins' absence isn't as egregious as it seems at first glance. The Atlanta Hawks offense stands to be a hair more dynamic when they detach him from Clint Capela, and that separation happens fairly often. About 40 percent of Collins' possessions this season have come at the 5. Atlanta's selection was bound to include one big rather than both.

A Capela-in-the-middle lineup feels right. He still provides more frontline defensive value than Capela, and this unit, not surprisingly, is skating by with top-notch rim protection. Opponents are also shooting under 24 percent from long distance against this group, an absurdly low mark that has zero chance of sustaining across a much larger sample but offers quite the boon here.

Appearances from Trae Young, Kevin Huerter and Danilo Gallinari come as no surprise. Tony Snell's cameo is a tad disarming but makes total sense. Atlanta has dealt with injuries galore on the wings. Kris Dunn (right knee/right ankle) has yet to play this season. De'Andre Hunter (right knee) has appeared in two games since Feb. 1. And Cam Reddish (right Achilles) hasn't taken the floor since Feb. 23. Bogdan Bogdanovic and Gallinari himself have dealt with their own issues.

Snell doesn't fit the "dynamic" bill shared by every other perimeter player within this unit. He is, however, downing over 57 percent of his threes. And this combination overall is converting 40.9 percent of its treys while flame-throwing from mid-range—the result of which is a 123.1 offensive rating.

this is the least shocking thing I've read in a while. Who in their right mind would ever think they could play together? It's the same reason all those Beal to ATL rumors were incredibly stupid. Trae can only play with very specific players, guys who can defend a bit and have a little size.

No reason they should ever be on the court together.

Also Lou shoots almost every time he touches the ball. the other night, Trae was hot and Lou comes in the game and ball stops the next possession and throws up a bad shot early in the shot clock rather than let Trae have a touch and run the offense.

Lou is second unit scoring and that's it. And even then he shouldn't be playing PG cause he doesn't look to pass enough.

It clearly is a flawed back court pairing. But I could see a scenario against certain lineups where it could exploit opposing matchups. If Philly tries to go big while Capela is out with foul trouble, I could see us go extra small with:

Lou
Trae
Huerter
Bogdan
Gallinari.

If those guys get hot from three, we could bomb Embiid off the floor with a barrage of three pointers in a quick spurt.

But, it obviously ain't something to use very frequently or for long stretches.

Capela will need to play extra smart bball once in playoffs, there will some times where it will be better to give a free basket than getting a foul. McMillan will have to send Okongwu and Night on defense for sure at some moment.

This team is pretty interesting. They do not have a top 5 guy like a Harden or Durant but they have so many pieces that can get you 20 if called upon. I really like how many of the guys are good at the free throw line as well.
