Interest in Trading for KAT?
Hey all - coming onto the board as a Wolves fan to gauge your interest in a potential trade for KAT.
Was incredibly impressed by the Hawks playoff run this year and excited to see how the team evolves moving forward. With a bunch of young talent interested to see how you view the future of the Hawks. Big fan of Hunter and Okungwu and also really like Capela's chemistry with Trae.
All of that being said, from an outside perspective John Collins' impending RFA is a tricky situation that'll be repeated with Reddish, Huerter, Hunter and Okungwu in the next couple of years.
Is there any interest in consolidating some assets to go after a player like KAT right now? Or is it too early in the development of Reddish, Huerter, Hunter and Okungwu to trade contributing pieces of a team that made the ECF while Trae is still on his rookie contract?
Obviously there are defensive questions with Trae and KAT being the center pieces of any team, but think it's a potentially all-time offensive pairing. Would love to get your thoughts on what pieces are on the table for a trade for a star-level player.

Personally, I'd love the chance to add KAT to a core of Trae Young, Onyeka Okongwu and De'Andre Hunter. I think he'd be a beast in the East and pretty unstoppable pick-and-roll partner with Trae.
The board as a whole is unlikely to embrace a KAT acquisition. The consensus seems to be that he's an underachiever who doesn't make his team better.
Again, I'd love to get my hands on him. However, I wouldn't empty the cupboards to get him. I'd start the bidding at John Collins, Clint Capela, Kevin Huerter, #20 pick this draft, Hawks 2023 draft pick (top-3 protected) and Danilo Gallinari (for contract matching).
If you really pushed it, I'd swap out Huerter and Capela for Bogdan and Okongwu.

I agree with Jamaaliver

I'd be a huge fan if we could keep Trae, Hunter, Bogi, OO as the core with him. I think so some point Hawks will have to trade 2 for 1 and I think KAT best complementary player in top 20 who MIGHT be available

I will gladly take KAT depending on what it cost us. Also, knowing that he's not the greatest leader but he doesn't have to be. He can produce numbers and that is what matters.

Atlanta having trade talks for KAT would be ok.
I would offer Collins and Huerter for KAT and a 2022 2nd round pick.

Re: Interest in Trading for KAT?
I'll head up the 'easy pass' contingent.
Towns would be fine to add to the team, as long as it doesn't cost a bundle. That said, it would cost a bundle so it's not worth gutting the team to become Twolves-East.
And I'm not enamored with watching Towns fight Young for touches around the 3pt line all game long.

Not a fan of KAT. I don’t think he contributes to winning basketball. He’s a really good individual player but can’t seem to propel his team even a bit. Pass for me.

I understand your point but that was said about other guys that eventually won rings including Anthony Davis a few years ago. If the Hawks could get Kat at a reasonable price they should entertain it in my opinion. He is a good shooting big. A guy who can hit his FT.
Head to head he is dead even stats wise in his games vs Embiid.
Head to head he has actually outplayed Jokic stats wise
KAT could turn out to be a real steal who gets too much blame for Minnys losses.
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point.

Re: Interest in Trading for KAT?
He's a top 20 player that will fit next to a high usage guard. If you can get him get him IMO.
Dame, Harden, even Kawhi would have some fit issues.
IMO it's going to be a gauntlet of bigs in the East - Giannis, Embiid, and KD... You need either a strong slasher go can aggressively go at those guys, a 3 point shooting center who make them pay or a big with low post games that can take it to them.
To me KAT is 2 out of those three and I don't think OO will be able to make that up. And keeping Hunter will show you to have that POTENTIAL slasher creator as well

I like KAT, but on the other hand Jimmy Butler paints KAT a team cancer, while Collins is a great locker room guy.
We would just be hoping that Coach Nate and Trae can turn KAT around.

That made me laugh a bit. Butler has had issues in multiple places. Kat may or may not be a good teammate but Jimmy Butler is not the guy I would want making a call on anyone.

Well im not a Butler fan or anything, but the rumor is that Butler had issues with KAT (and Wiggs) and then had issues with Ben's and Embiid's work ethic and dedication.
Butler, who is not the most talented of guys, then over achieves and leads a lack luster Heat team to one Finals appearance
After watching the Sixers' series, and the mental midgets Ben and Embiid are, I don't blame Butler having issues or attitudes with the Sixers' cast.

Re: Interest in Trading for KAT?
Thanks for your guys' feedback.
Think the Wolves would need a package based around Hunter and kind of sounds like that's a non-starter.
FWIW from a Wolves' fan perspective KAT definitely wasn't as competitive as Jimmy wanted him to be at the time and didn't respond to Jimmy's in your face type of leadership. He's definitely not a locker room cancer, his teammates like him, he just hasn't shown the "alpha mentality" I think you need to be a true Superstar in the league.

I understand but ironically Embiid was really strong in this years playoff while Butler was awful.

I think i'd include Hunter in a package for Kat, but the kicker is how much more value do we have to include? Especially if a S&T deal including Collins would lower the cost.
I mean if we're looking at KAT for Collins and Hunter, then I think we take that and don't look back. At that point you have 2 surefire star players(superstars in my eyes) in Trae and KAT. You've got the defensive bigs in Capela and OO already figured out. You still keep Cam and Huerter on the wings. Gallo's offense is stronger coming off the bench. Bogi will hopefully be your 3rd option, and I truly believe he's one of the best 3rd options. Effectively you only need a backup PG, and you're roster is set. Maybe that still leaves the door open for Lou on a cheap deal. Some cheap vets. Retain guys like Mays and Knight for sure. You can even shift your draft to adding a defensive wing or a high upside project.

I disagree with you here. i think Embiid had a bad playoffs. I don't really care if you score 50 if you go 0-5FG in the last 10 minutes of a game. Embiid really showed he is mentally weak and probably the worst clutch player in the NBA right now.

You want to trade an All Star Center for a package centered around an injured SF with a career scoring avg of 15 ppg?

Knock yourself out, bud. We'll take that trade all day everyday...
