This Hawks-Heat trade is centered on Jimmy Butler to Atlanta
Outside of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, the team lacked depth and explosiveness. There will be plenty of moving parts in the offseason and a blockbuster trade could be on tap.
These two conference foes could get together for a deal that checks boxes for both sides. Here is what the potential trade might look like between Atlanta and Miami.https://www.nbaanalysis.net/2021/07/15/nba-rumors-atlanta-hawks-miami-heat-trade-jimmy-butler/
Apparently this is a rumor now. I'm guessing it will be something like Collins for Butler.
I'm actually not a fan of Butler. I do admire his grit, work ethic, and intangibles, but for me his shooting is just painful to watch.
I wouldn't trade Collins for Butler, but if the move happen, I wouldn't be upset either.
I also don't want to over pay Collins, at the most I would only give him $80 million for 4 years, but if this is the best trade the Hawks can get for Collins this summer, then so be it.

The proposal from the article doesn't mention Collins:
Atlanta Hawks Receive: F Jimmy ButlerMiami Heat Receive: G/F Bogdan Bogdanovic, F De’Andre Hunter, C Onyeka Okongwu, No. 20 pick, 2023 first-round pick, 2024 first-round pick swap and 2025 first-round pick (top 5 protected)That's a no for me.

That's too many firsts going out. The 20 this year and 23 I can understand. Also, I wouldn't do this unless I knew he would resign.

That is indeed an expensive transaction.
That would leave us with a starting five of:
Capela
Collins
J Butler
K Huerter
T Young
and Cam Reddish off the bench.
That actually does feel closer to a championship level roster. But it lacks depth and still isn't guaranteed to get past Brooklyn, Lakers or Milwaukee. Also, it would make Miami the super power in our division for years to come.
At this point in his career-- J Butler isn't a greater asset than Bogdan, Hunter, Okongwu and multiple picks combined.
Also, he'd likely hurt Cam Reddish's feelings. Often. This would be a bad trade both on and off the court.

If Miami is already looking to trade Butler after Butlers history I would be wary of taking on his 37 mill a year. First question I would ask is why are you trying to trade the guy already?

Indeed. Guy keeps bouncing around and leaves a ring around the tub wherever he exits. Rumors of being a malcontent in CHI, MIN, PHI so far. If he leaves MIA, which I admittedly think is doubtful, we'll wait and see what bubbles to the surface.

Yes, it just seems like far to much.
With Dame requesting to be traded I could see us offering the proposal for him, not Jimmy.

Supposedly Lilllllard hasn't requested out although it does seem imminent.
That said, there's no fit for Dame here. If anything, if/when he asks out, we need to try to net Nurkic.

I think these guys aren't robots and there could be ego concerns in addition to the fact that neither player exhibits enough of an off-ball game to just assume they'd excel in a tandem setup.

Nurk is almost perfect for us as that bodyguard. Those huge screens he would set for Trae, wow. Yes please.

JN is injury prone with one year left on his deal but I'd take him over Capela in a heartbeat.

Dame is a top 10 player in the league. If he becomes available a team has to go for him if the price is anywhere close to reasonable.

Indeed. Titles are won by star players. Even LeBron James has struggled to win on teams with no other elite players. Expecting lil Trae to win without another top player is foolish.
If we can put a package together that nets a top player while maintaining a strong starting 5, we have to go for it.
We can always get cheap, ring chasing vets to fill in bench roles along the way.

"Lil Trae"?
How "big" do you think Lillard is?
You can't just glow players together and assume it'll work just because their 2k ratings are high.
There's a reason the Lakers with Karl Malone didn't win a title that year. It's not just about talent on paper.

I get your point. I think I have seen better examples including the Moses, Dom, Reggie Hawks. I say that because to be fair Karl was a shadow of himself. I think he was around 40.

On Jimmy Butler... I've always been a fan, but he's getting paid a lot and he does seem to leave a mess behind him when he leaves somewhere.
I actually think Cam is more skilled than Jimmy and is similar to him in a bunch of ways. Jimmy seems to be good because he has a great work ethic and demands a lot from himself. I hope to see Cam take that same approach, because he can be better than Jimmy if he does. I want to see Cam get in the gym and put about 10-15 lbs of muscle on this offseason and really work on his corner 3. Same for Deandre. Both can be very good players for us and both have the frame and the length you want in a 3&D player.
tl;dr - I respect Butler's game and I think he's a tremendous player, but I'd rather develop our core guys and go get some role playing vets to fill out our bench. I'd rather sign both DRose and Blake Griffin than trade for Jimmy because our core stays together in that scenario and we add some great vet leadership.

I can't believe someone seriously think it could happen, how in the world Schlenk would give all that for Butler only...
