Hawks look to move to 2-0 vs. Cavaliers
The Atlanta Hawks will be on the road Saturday evening for a matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Hawks will look to move to 2-0 on the young season vs. Cleveland after their season opening win vs. the Dallas Mavericks Thursday, who will be on a back-to-back following their loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night.
Trae Young had 19 points and 14 assists in the win over Dallas, with Cam Reddish adding 20 points. De’Andre Hunter looked great in his return to regular season action, providing a solid presence on offense and stifling defense on Luka Doncic.
The Cavaliers were without starting point guard Darius Garland in Friday’s contest, and his status for Saturday's game is presumably up in the air as he's currently listed as day-to-day.

CLE is such a poorly constructed team with solid pieces...

Classic trap game.
Starters were 4/20 from 3...add in Huerter's 0/4...recipe for disaster.
JC in foul trouble and no Gallo...no Goody.
On the very bright side.....Cam Reddish with another stellar effort.
The Zone, we didn't attack it - settled too much.

Cleveland only had four fast breaks.
We just didn't show up for this one. Wins won't just happen young Hawks!

We could have used some Lou Will tonight.

Trae on his technical foul.
“I think the refs are trying to learn as much as we are with these calls and stuff. It’s frustrating whenever it’s on one end and it’s not on the other, but I think we’re all learning and we’re all trying to get better, and when a ref’s mean-mugging me and trying to look at me straight in the eye, I’m going to look at him back. I didn’t say nothing to him. He just gave me a tech. He was just looking at me. I asked him why is it personal, and he gave me a tech. So I don’t know. I’ll probably get that money back. Out of all my techs I’ve gotten, that’s probably one I’ll get back.”
Something to keep an eye on going forward.
Total freethrow attempts over the first 2 games.
Hawks 24, Opponents 40

The Cavs 3 center lineup is hard to deal with how the Hawks are constructed rn. Nate did a poor job on his rotations. Johnson needed minutes here considering Cap and Collins on minutes restrictions, OO and Gallo out injured.
Huerter seems like he's been napping all summer. Cam is such an enigma. He's volatile crypto in human form. I don't know if they should trade him for a future 1st pick or extend the next 4 seasons.

The Cavs have some young talent that are going to be very good.

Agreed. I do think they dropped the ball when they started their rebuild. They used the pick from
the Kyrie trade to draft Collin Sexton. He's a solid player. But imagine had they instead drafted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Michael Porter, Jr. or even Mikal Bridges.
They would be much further along in their process. IMHO.

That's a good point.
Collin Sexton is good but I don't believe he's ever going to make an all-star team.

I saw quite a few phantom calls given to the Hawks to take away any momentum the Hawks could build early. Sexton got a few calls that were pretty bogus while Trae can't buy a whistle right now.
As for Huerter, he hasn't been napping, he's a streaker shooter and when his 3 starts dropping his game will come back. He was fine in pre season, just has to get back into the flow. Cam's shot, especially his 3 has been dropping and he's been aggressive looking for his shot. He usually starts off really slow in the season but has continued his hot shooting from the Bucks playoff series. If he keeps it up he will get a huge payday come contract time.
Hawks are fine, it's one of those "NBA" games where you can see who the refs are favoring real early. Hawks had a huge win against Dallas and Cavs on a back to back after losing, I'm sure Vegas made a killing on the Cavs as all the money was probably on the Hawks.

Shamet is paid to be a streaky bench shooter. Huerter is paid to be a consistent bench shooter if not starter.

We lost this game because of Hunter, Huerter and Bogi's poor shooting.
