Dejounte Murray
Hawks and Spurs engage in discussions of trade value of Dejounte Murray. Rumored that it would take a Jrue Holiday package to acquire him.
Would it be worth it?

I really like DjM and would be in favor of making him the 2nd star we've been seeking.

Re: Dejounte Murray
I will say, Trae's assist numbers would likely go down. But his scoring (and shooting percentages) would likely soar playing more off ball like Steph.

I'd like to have him, but wouldn't want to lose Oneyka already in the deal.

Re: Dejounte Murray
If we bring this kid in, are we n agreement that he becomes the primary floor general and Trae will essentially be playing off ball in more of a Steph Curry-type role?
I believe it makes us more lethal on offense, but will Trae go for it?
From The Ringer back in February:
I believe it makes us more lethal on offense, but will Trae go for it?
From The Ringer back in February:
While San Antonio has taken a step back, its 25-year-old point guard has hit a new level, and might even snag an All-Star reserve spot in the West. Along with his typical All-NBA-level defense, Murray is averaging 19 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists per game, with more triple-doubles than James Harden.
But really I want to talk about Murray’s arms. On defense, he wields his outrageous (6-foot-10) wingspan with the fluidity of elastic and the burst of a viper, to great effect: He leads the NBA in both steals and deflections. He stretches high for rebounds and in a single motion snares the ball with one hand, tucks it under his arm, and takes off in transition. On offense, Murray uses his length to finish unorthodox push shots and floaters. His increasingly silky midrange pull-up is released from over his head, and out of defenders’ reach.
The Spurs boast a passable offense when Murray plays and look rudderless when he doesn’t. But my favorite part of his campaign has been the way he’s stepped into the leadership void that opened up when DeRozan left last offseason. Preeminent NBA statesmen, from Gregg Popovich to Chris Paul, have praised his leadership.
He plays with a sneering confidence and a chip on his shoulder, all while maintaining the Spursian balance of taking responsibility without hogging credit or the ball.

I don't think DJ would become the primary floor general. He would allow Trae to play off ball some. But Trae would still be the primary....... Even now, when team are doubling and trapping Trae he attempts to give the ball up to Huerter, Bogi, and/or Wright. they usually want to give the ball back to Trae. Trae doesn't mind playing off ball.

We'll see...but the next time I see him use an off-ball screen will be the first time I've seen him use an off-ball screen.
Usually, he gives the ball up while being doubled and then immediately motions for the ball back.
Contrast that with Steph who's constantly moving, cutting and using screens to get open. Trae will need to improve this skill if we get a top PG like Dejounte here.
CBS SportsHawks president Travis Schlenk has spoken with me numerous times about his and the coaches' efforts to get Young to see the value of moving more without the ball, where tracking him becomes a more difficult prospect. This is something he still needs to commit to and work on, but it also requires the Hawks fielding enough capable playmakers that Young can be freed to move off the ball.
Being equally dangerous off-ball is what makes Stephen Curry great. Whatever evolution Young taps into, and whatever roster moves the Hawks are able to make this summer, it has to be with [the Miami] series in mind.
Young has all five sets of defensive eyes focused squarely on him. This is what happens when you're a superstar and you always have the ball. You're easy to track; not necessarily easy to defend, but easy to track.

I would like very much to acquire Dejounte Murray but I don't believe it's likely to happen. I believe the cost would be far to great and our front office won't give up what it will take.

Can someone tell me what player would be better fit next to Trae worth giving up a bunch of assets for?
This just feels like we have an opportunity to draft Luka and we're collecting assets lol

Want? or is it that Nate coaching is so bad or only focused on Trae that there is no other thing to do that giving him the ball again?

Not necessary next to Trae only, but Ben Simmons is still one that would help getting a better defense, and also open some things on offense. And he might cost less than Murray (not in money but in assets to send).
The problem with Simmons is that he doesn't shot 3s, so trading for him has to be link with another trade, a C swap, to get a guy like Turner. Murray was allowing to keep playing with Okongwu/Capela as C

SI.comSpurs Guard Dejounte Murray Works Out in Atlanta
The All-Star guard is in Atlanta
The Spurs have let it be known they want a "Jrue Holiday-like package" for their All-Star point guard. That means three first round draft picks plus Collins. Fans' enthusiasm about the potential trade was stoked when they saw Murray working out at a gym in Stonecrest, Georgia, which is less than a 30-minute drive to State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Trae must stay happy so as long as what we give is reasonable I would like for us to acquire Dejounte Murray.

Having an all-star, all NBA caliber backcourt would be huge. Hawks have the assets to get this done and still have a solid team. I see the CHAR pick conveying as a #16 type pick this year or top #14 the following. JC, CHAR FRP, future ATL FRP should be getting close. MAybe add another SRP next year

Did we draft AJ for the Spurs? Yeah he was BPA so if we keep him great, but I saw where he worked out for the Spurs 9 times pre-draft
JC / AJ / CHAR FRP works for me
