AJ looks good but his biggest weakness is he has zero handles. The key to why the warriors are good is not just shoot, it is because they put up 4 to 5 guys on the court who can handle the ball. the combination that the warriors went with the most was steph, klay, pool, wigs, and green. step, klay, and pool were the shooters but the key to the warriors offense was wigs and green's ability to handle the ball and move.

i hope im wrong and AJ can turn into a shawn marion type of player but like all hawk rookies, we probably won't see much of him in 2023 and we will see more of jalen

SEC assistant coach on AJ Griffin:

Code: Select all

“Great size, great basketball IQ, sniper shooter but can also put it on the floor and get to the basket or has a good midrange. Great length on the defensive end. Good two-way player … great basketball pedigree.”

Cooper was lazy and had a poor work ethic, hopefully AJ, being the son of an ex NBA player will have a professional attitude and a Kobe-ish like worth ethic.

The contrast is amazing between him and Cam. Such a positive, optimistic approach. But he needs to get as spry and quick from two years ago.

He doesn't need to have vertical pop as that's obviously not conducive for his lower extremities. I really wish the Hawks had a medical staff similar to Suns from the Nash era.

For this season he just needs to move off ball, Korver should really work with him exclusively in the Gleague. And then, absolutely hit that open catch and shoot 3. On defense they'll likely need to hide him, so not much minutes with Trae off the bat.

:banghead:

This injured Hawk was unable to fly while summer league was here. He's still a teenager. He's already missed a lot of playing time due to injuries. I know we all want him to get completely well before exhibition games begin.

His tape screams elite catch and shoot from deep. Seems like a natural fit for Huerter's spot.

With Bogi not yet a full participant in Training Camp/Practice - he has a great opportunity here.

And if you add that he can work on shooting with Korver... it can even improve :D

We have missed that real catch and shoot threat since KK. Those kinds of guys cause so much havoc on the offensive side because the defense has to follow them everywhere. I love the idea of having a real threat out there that we can run screens for and really muck things up to let Trae and DJM eat. Honestly, I think the defense will just have to give us that corner three because our backcourt will eat them alive if they follow that shooter around everywhere.

I had really high hopes Huerter could be that type of threat for us. He has the game and skill set to do it. But Lloyd and Nate insisted on putting the ball in his hands and making him an on-ball threat.

Seems like a real missed opportunity. Taking a player from a potential elite strength. IMO, we've done the same with Collins. He's a devastating inside player, and we've turned him into a modest outside shooter to accommodate Capela.

We obviously want to expand his skill set, but I hope we let AJ focus on what he does best...

Any thoughts on what position he's best suited for in his twenties? He's a sweet shooter and only 6'6", but I've read a few scouting reports indicating his best option might be switching to SF/PF because of his lacking foot speed. (He does have the body to guard PFs.)
