I'm trying to see more of these types of performances this year from these two.

If Trae finally avg 30ppg and Dejounte just matches his 20ppg avg from previous year, we should see 60 games where these two combine for 50+ points -- cementing their spot as best backcourt in the East.

I would say maybe the best offensive backcourt in the East, but I don't see them being the best overall backcourt, I have yet to see Murray being able to defend on big SGs first.
And would prefer to see Trae playing like Nash, even if I have no problem to see him scoring more than 30pts when the game leads to that.

Jimmy has played SF since joining the Heat.
Beal and Booker haven't played together
Brown has played SF the last 2 seasons and Brogdon isn't the starter. White starts this season
Harden is a basket case
How soon before Kyrie asks out?
I'm taking Trae/Murray in my top 3.

I'm liking what I'm seeing this preseason from Trae and DJM.

9th? at best, unless Quin makes a miracle.
I said that I thought that it would be a bad fit back before the trade was even done, and it's not these two first game after several months and a full off season with Quin that made my opinion changed on that.

I hope I will be wrong in the end and that this roster can succeed, but at this moment, I still think that the team would be better with guys like Hield and Turner instead of Murray and Capela

Capela does not fit in this offense.

He doesn't pass/dribble/shoot in an offense that requires players to do at least 2 of the three.

And he clearly isn't the rim runner/play finisher that Collins was.

NBA’s biggest early surprises in 2023-24

Atlanta Hawks

Image

Dejounte Murray: The Hawks were one of the league’s best offensive teams in the first two weeks, despite Trae Young being off to a career-worst start shooting (33.6 percent). Murray is the biggest reason things are working. Entering Thursday, he was shooting 50 percent from the field and averaging a career-high 22.6 points and 6.1 assists per game. There are going to be lingering questions about how well the Young-Murray backcourt will develop long term, but the fact that Murray signed an extension and surprisingly bypassed expected free agency indicates how committed he is to making it work in Atlanta

Hawks guards making silly mistakes or struggling in Quin's new offense?

Doc Rivers wrote:It has not worked. They are both small in size. Now, Murray will try to defend and he is very competitive, but he is still small at the end of the day and slight. Yeah... I don't see it working. I'm with you, I thought Q (Haws head coach Quin Snyder) would come in and change them and they have, they have been better on offense at times, but after that, they are not a deep team and you just don't see it on a night-to-night basis with them.

Trae at the end of a game... no one wants to be in a one-point game and you saw it last year against Boston, you don't want to be in a one-point game when that dude is on the floor with the ball because he is capable of making shots, but the defense from him is poor and you have to do both ends if you want to win in this league.

Doc has a point. DJM is a slightly built 6-4 Trae in stature. A guy like Melton would be better served alongside Trae imo.
