Did Cleveland just bypass us in the standings?

Cavs are on par with the Hawks. We need to upgrade from either Capela or Collins to climb the ladder imo.

No question they did. Look how we played last season? Mitchell doesn't play much defense but he knows how to score. He has a nice running mate next to him that can score as well.

^For more than a decade, I wondered why more stars didn't come East to challenge LeBron in a much easier path to the Conference Finals.

And of course now that we finally have our own star...all the other top players have finally migrated East to make our path suddenly much more challenging.

If Trae isn't voted an All Star starter by the fans, he might not make the team at all this year. Not with Harden, D Mitchell, Jimmy Butler getting so many votes on contending, high profile teams.

I agree we need a nice two way big man to solidify our place in the top 4 of the conference...or Hunter and Okongwu need to take BIG steps this season.

Miami needs to make a big move. I don't see them going anywhere at this point with that trio.

Ranking NBA Eastern Conference Starting Lineups

6. Atlanta Hawks

Image

Projected Starting Lineup: PG Trae Young, SG Dejounte Murray, SF De'Andre Hunter, PF John Collins, C Clint Capela

Atlanta had little problem generating offense whenever Young, Hunter, Collins and Capela shared the floor last season, registering an offensive rating of 115.3.

Unfortunately, this quartet also gave up 112.4 points, meaning a net rating of just plus-2.8 wasn't good enough to make any sort of playoff noise.

Add Murray to the mix, however, and the Hawks now have a proven ball-stopper on the outside, one who's going to take on the toughest matchup every night and limit dribble penetration. While he's technically making a switch from floor general to shooting guard, Murray's 6'10" wingspan will allow him to guard across multiple positions.

Hunter has yet to receive an extension when all three players that were selected ahead of him in 2019 (Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, RJ Barrett) and the one taken immediately after him (Darius Garland) have all signed max or near-max deals. If healthy, Hunter should have a career year while looking to get paid.

Capela should also be motivated to hold off Onyeka Okongwu for his starting job, as the 21-year-old looks like he'll soon be ready to play starters minutes, if he's not already.

Overall, the Hawks are taking what was one of the best offensive starting fives in all of basketball and adding in an elite defender who's also a talented scorer and playmaker himself. What's not to like?

Time for DeAndre to prove he isn't the weak link in this Hawks' lineup...

Trae is gonna be devastated by that dunk rating. He's been working so hard.

I'm going to ride with this Hawks team to the bitter end. I think that this is the most talented Atlanta Hawks team ever with a lot of upside left to develop.

My big key to this season is Hunter. OO, JJ and AJ all have plenty of potential to develop, but for this season with Hunter as a starter, just imagine if he can score in the high teens and improve his assist and board numbers while getting back to in the top wing defender convo....

OO might also be a big surprise this year. It's easy to forget that this is only his third season and that his first two offseasons were injury problemed, affecting his development and conditioning.

Another big hope is that Bogdan's knee surgury is a success and he comes back strong and durable.

There really is a lot of potential for this Hawks team to surprise. Deepest team in the league

Everything what you said about Hunter is spot on. He is our X-factor in this starting group. He needs to stay healthy and give us consistency in all those areas.
OO is our bench x-factor. Having a PG to get him the ball in the right spots should be a big upgrade. Increase in minutes should increase in scoring, need him to be a better defensive rebounder and limit his fouling.
The health of Bogi's knee will always be a 'thing'.
