Is it time to start Johnson over Collins?

You can check my old posts, but for years, i've said Hawks should not sign Collins to a big contract, especially after the lost to in the Bucks' series in the playoffs years ago. Collins has put up points but has never shown he is a legit All Star, but Hawks ended up paying him all star dollars.

I'm not a big Jalen fan, but at least he shows hustle out there.

Is it time to start Johnson over Collins?

Try to make things easier for Collins and let him score in the second unit, but at this point, Hawks would be lucky to get a 2nd round pick for Collin's big contract.

I don't believe it's in our best interest to bench Collins if we want to maximize his value. However, our front office seems to overvalue Collins already.

No.
Collins has struggled shooting the 3, but his defense has been invaluable.
Take some time to watch him on defense, not for the things you can see that will show up in the boxscore like a blocks, but for things that don't show up in the boxscore - but timely rotations, tagging players while his teammates recover, his communication to get everyone lined up.

It's time to sit Collins down for a few. Something has to be wrong with his finger, although he's killing it from the line. Almost wish he was fighting an injury cause he's looking worse on offense every game. His defense effort is good, but his rebounding is also lacking.

Johnson in his firsts start over Collins, 10 rebounds with solid defense on Gordon all game long. If Collins could just do that, those little things with his huge $130 million contract... :banghead:

Collins played the 1st half of last game before getting injured - 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block - but OK. :-?

Let's see if he can repeat this type of production with Trae on the court...

Not so sure. He was offered 4@90 which was a good offer. Probably should have done a S&T when he came up for the bigger deal

You need to get past him not accepting the 4/$90. It's over and done.

Does anybody believe Jalen Johnson will be an all-star consistently? Or, what do you believe his ceiling is?

JJ is fine in the role he's in. Should've had it as a rook and been way ahead of the curve... He has point forward qualities and the staff doesn't know how to approach his skill set.

He's a terror in transition, they should just let him bring the ball up the court on occasion and see if he can create. If not, Murray and Trae will always be hovering ready to take over the ball.

4/90 is almost the same than what Hunter got and signed for.
So why Collins refused it? Because like Trae, he started his career in a empty roster, and both got all the green light to do what they wanted, but they were loosing.
I said it back to their first seasons, the management should have give more responsibilities to veterans. It's easy to look like an All-Star when you can do what you want, but it doesn't mean anything if you're not winning.
It was easy then for his agent to refuse this offer, because he was certainly asking more based on his individual stats than the team record.

If you want to avoid this kind of thing, never let young guys 100% running the team. It's a management mistake that created this problem.

Has nothing to do with me getting over. At 4@90 he wouldn't be so over paid. Money matters to the Hawks and any other team. If JC and the Hawks can improve his play, then that will help; but for the time being he is a negative asset at his price.

Time is relative. What happens yesterday creates today. It's all connected

If he wasn't making $40+ million this year, BS would be exactly the kind of presence we need off the bench this year. This should be the style Jalen Johnson models his game after.

No, it's time to feature more Collins in the offense with less Capela clogging the lane:

Collins has still been horrible at 3s since coming back from injury but Its great to see Collins finally stepping up on defense and rebounding in the last 6 games and it has helped alot. In the last 6 games Collins has been averaging 11 rebounds, 1.5 blocks. in Collins' first 24 games, he was only averaging 7 rebounds, 1 block.
