Trade Deadline 2023 - February 9th.

Post#1 » by jayu70 » Thu Jan 5, 2023 12:48 am

36 Days to the trade deadline.
January 5th - Teams can sign players to 10 day contracts
January 10th - The contracts of Martin ($1 mil).and Vit ($1.5 mil) become fully guaranteed for the rest of the season.
Hawks are currently $1.7 million below the tax line. (Reminder that DJ and CC have likely incentives that get us close to the tax line).
Hawks have 2 trade exceptions $3.6 mil (Huerter) and $4.5 mil (Harkless) they can use to trade for a player on a 1 year contract. [Cannot be combined]
Expiring contracts:
JHol (6.2), Frank (2.4), AHol (1.9).

I may be in the minority, but I hope we don't have any more major changes in personnel at the trade deadline this year. I have faith in the roster Travis put together' it's the coaching (and Trae) that aren't utilizing them adequately.

I'd hate to see John or D Hunter get traded and blossom just like Huerter has simply because they are in a better scheme.

^ I feel the same.
I would like to move on from JHol and Frank K.
Minor trade: OKC/Hawks - Bazely and Muscala for JHol, Frank K and 2nd.
Muscala can play with any combination of our bigs CC/JC/OO.
Take a flyer on Bazely and it prevents Nate from playing JHol.

Might be stuck with the roster we have until the offseason.

Thinking we're still going to be on the hook for at least 2 more years with Collins unless Landry just gives into the FRP comp it seems it will take to trade him now. I figured this day would come though.

I'm fine with trading Collins during the draft. It's too many people buying and not enough selling this go round.

I know there are reports of us looking for another big, but I wonder if we will try snd move Bogi now or wait until the offseason.
We really do need to try and showcase JC if they are trying to move him for the rest of this season.

Rumor - they are trying to move Justin Holiday ($6.2 mil) and a 2nd rounder for a big.

Don't know what they can get for that package, but Bamba is the guy to go after. The team needs any functioning 7 footer, better yet one that can hit the 3 at a decent rate.

Buy, Sell, Hold: What Each NBA Team Should Do at the Trade Deadline

Atlanta Hawks: Sell

Image

There are signs of life are trickling out from the Atlanta Hawks. They are 7-3 since Jan. 1, during which time the offense has hummed, Trae Young is back to being Thermonuclear AF and the dynamic between he and Dejounte Murray has felt more natural.

Atlanta can actually build some interesting trade packages if it wants to buy. This year's first-rounder can be moved, and the Hawks have a number of intriguing prospects (AJ Griffin, Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu) and non-stars (Bogdan Bogdanović, John Collins) they can use to sweeten and anchor bigger deals.

Now just isn't the time to angle for a home run. Atlanta doesn't have the asset juice with its 2025 and 2027 first-rounders headed to San Antonio and De'Andre Hunter on a poison-pill contract. They also need to see this recent streak last longer than a few weeks before declaring themselves ready to contend. And even then, they'd ideally have their front office and head coaching situations on a more stable footing before making major moves.

Selling is the more sensible path for them.
This does not mean "blow it up." It's more like a license—a plea, really—to trade Collins. He has looked better on offense lately, but remains underutilized in his role. That's not going to change following the return of Clint Capela.

And while I couldn't give a damn about saving money for team governor Tony Ressler, the organization's proximity to the tax next year could preclude them from re-upping Bogdanović (player option) over the summer. A Collins trade would, ideally, arm them with extra wiggle room and bring back some higher-volume three-point shooting.

Report: Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks among teams monitoring Serge Ibaka

Image

The trade deadline for the NBA’s 2022-23 season is quickly approaching, and veteran big man Serge Ibaka appears to be a player that could end up getting moved.

According to a recent report, a handful of Eastern Conference teams with playoff aspirations are monitoring the status of the Milwaukee Bucks big man.

Code: Select all

“Several teams are monitoring Ibaka, including the Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, and Atlanta Hawks, league sources told HoopsHype,” Michael Scotto reported. “The sense is that Milwaukee would be willing to part with Ibaka for a second-round pick, according to NBA executives who spoke with HoopsHype.”
Hoopshype

Ibaka hasn’t played much this season, appearing in just 16 games (with no starts) so far. In those games, he’s been on the floor for just 11.6 minutes per contest. He’s putting up 4.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

His career is seemingly starting to wind down, which isn’t all that surprising given the fact that he is 33 years old.

Still, it seems apparent that there are teams out there that think he could be a nice rotation piece in the frontcourt. In his prime, Ibaka was a force in the post, earning three All-Defensive team honors and leading the league in blocks per game twice.

Another nice aspect for teams that are interested in Ibaka and have playoff goals is that the veteran does have championship pedigree. He was a member of the 2019 Toronto Raptors squad that surprised the league by winning a championship.

For coaches and players alike, it’s surely always seen as a net positive when a roster has a player or two who know what it takes to win a title in the NBA.

Eww, Ibaka is beyond toast at this juncture. Now that Orl has Isaac back, Bamba is of no use to them. He's a bust in relative terms, but good pg play should get sum more production out of him. DJM is like a pure pg compared to who he's played with.

Kings' Richaun Holmes a buyout candidate?

Asked if any of Atlanta’s players should be considered off-limits, Fields responded: “We can’t be a .500 ball club and not be open to change. Obviously, some guys are less moveable for a variety of reasons, but we will be all ears.”

Great answer from the young GM.

Can't imagine the Pels offering anything but junk scraps for Collins. Like Hayes, Graham, and possibly one of the worse of their incoming 1sts.

I mean Graham is better than A Holiday and Hayes than Tank. Maybe Lakers 2024 draft pick...

I guess Graham is included for some salary filler, but i'd actually do that deal if we can get Trey Murphy included.

The intrigue is actually Hayes, who I think has the make-up of a versatile stretch 4.

Hmm, Hayes never had me excited even during the draft combine. He seems to be slow off and on the court. I'm sure he'll get included in a deal better or worse for the Hawks. They actually have a non pro 2027 Bucks pick they could part with.
