Hawks Hope to Hault Heat Dominance

Image

Saturday night's game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Miami Heat was another example of the wide gulf between the two teams. Once again, Miami dominated their little brother in the Southeastern Division. Even worse, Hawks guard Trae Young has lost all confidence when facing the Heat. Young shot 2-13 (0-5) and finished with eight points. John Collins is on the verge of being unplayable due to his career-low shooting splits.

Tonight's game is the last of four matchups between the two teams, and an Atlanta win ties the season series and pulls them within a half-game of Miami in the Eastern Conference standings. Atlanta's offense is too unpredictable, so they must rely on their 21st-ranked defense to control Jimmy Butler and crew. Make no mistake, tonight's game is a crucial early test in the Quin Snyder era.

Ladies and gentlemen, we officially have ourselves a real basketball coach.

Great adjustments early. Great gameplan thus far. Great 1st Quarter.

This was an encouraging loss. I liked what I saw from the starters and especially Trae.

Nice adjustments by the coaching staff. We looked like an actual ball team this game.

Thought Capela played really well, like ECF run CC. He actually contested a 3 tightly. Team played well and still lost. The X factor to making this all work may be finding rotation pieces that create team offense from their defense.

Wing and guard perimeter defense is just too porous. Rotations of Bey and Hunter is not the best on defense, same goes for Bogi and DJM. Then you could add Trae and AJG, not the best on ball defenders we have collectively.

What a pity.
I know modern basketball is much more based on small players than bigs, but I do think that we lack some sice.
We just have three bigs and one of them is a C in a PF body and still raw, with no shooting abilities.
I would like to see Bay play more minutes at the three and we should have kept Favors or Kaminsky to give Capela resting time.

^Is anyone else intrigued by playing Bey at the 5 in an extreme small ball lineup with pace and spacing at a premium?

I am not.
I am a fan of classical basketball.
To me it would always be

Trae
Murray
Hunter
Collins
Capela
----------------
Bogdanovic
Griffin
Bay
Okonguw
An additional big here
