I really thought Prunty had earned the chance to stay aboard...if he wanted. I wish him well moving forward.

Watkinson was a big hire for us, analytics guy. We went to more of a spread than a motion offense (a la Houston) after hiring him and our offense was top in the league.

Kicked Joe P to the curb. It was never not going to be awkward. Hopefully the newest guys can nurture the young guys coming in along with OO, JJ, AJG, etc.

Hawks, Jazz, Blazers, G League coaching updates

When Quin Snyder took over as head coach of the Atlanta Hawks mid-season, many changes were expected on his coaching staff looking ahead. As Zach Klein of WSB TV in Atlanta reported, Snyder is replacing nearly his entire staff.

Several assistant coaching candidates have emerged to potentially fill Snyder’s staff next season, including Bryan Bailey, Alex Jensen, Igor Kokoskov, and Antonio Lang, league sources told HoopsHype.

  • Jensen spent eight seasons as an assistant coach under Snyder in Utah.
  • Bailey was an assistant coach during Snyder’s final two seasons in Utah and previously during the 2019-20 season.
  • Kokosov spent three seasons in Utah as one of Snyder’s assistant coaches before becoming head coach in Phoenix for one season and then one season each as an assistant with Sacramento, Dallas, and Brooklyn.
  • Lang spent five seasons as an assistant coach under Snyder from 2014-19 and has spent the past four seasons in Cleveland.

Atlanta Hawks head coach Quin Snyder is getting the band back together. After luring Antonio Lang away from the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier in May, the team is likely to add former Phoenix Suns head coach Igor Kokoskov, according to NBA correspondent Marc Stein.

The two former Utah Jazz assistants under Snyder join longtime Notre Dame coach Mike Brey (assistant at Snyder’s alma mater Duke) on what has quickly become one of the most notable staffs in the league. Kokoskov amassed a 19-63 record with the Suns in his lone head coaching season before being fired. He was most recently with the Brooklyn Nets.

It's official. I like this hire in particular for AJ and Jalen. Both guys have had 4 different head coaches in the last few years. Hopefully this provides some stability and a focus in fundamentals.

Kokoskov is a highly respected coach throughout both the NBA and the Euroleague. A Serbian national, he quickly leapt up the ranks to become the first ever non-American to be a full-time NBA assistant when he joined the Clippers staff in 2000. Kokoskov has held that position for the vast majority of the 23 years since, excepting stints as head coach of the Suns and of Fenerbache in Turkey in 2020-21.

Kokoskov comes with head coaching experience in the NBA, albeit just for one forgettable season. After taking over the Phoenix Suns for 2018-19, he led the team to an unfortunate 19-63 record and was dismissed at the end of the season.

Kokoskov has held an NBA coaching position for 21 of the last 23 years.

He started his coaching career as an assistant for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2000-2001. His most recent position was an assistant role for the Brooklyn Nets last season.

Kokoskov spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Jazz from 2015 to 2018. In that stretch, Snyder and Kokoskov led the Jazz to a 139-107 record and a 56.5% win percentage.

These coaching moves are the thing I'm most excited about

Can't wait to see what they do with the roster this summer

Thank you for all the news and links, fella.

I am super happy that we have done all those changes. Some of those assistants are top of the range and Kokoshkov evan has the level to be a HC in this league.

From here then we have to go in the right direction.
They need to analyze what kind of team basketball we want to develop and then keep the core, make some changes or fall into a blockburst of trades.

IMO, I believe we should keep all the players, as our bench guys have proven to be a key differential in this league. Not everybody has big forwards to insert into the game.
But we need to find an answer to the big question: can we play CC and Collins so many minutes together? Should we find an alternative in the form of a shooting centre?

We can at least be content in knowing we have some actual developmental coaches on the staff compared to prior years. We haven't had a staff this good since Bud brought in the group that consisted of Snyder himself with Atkinson, Darvin Ham, and Taylor Jenkins.

Loving this hire for multiple reasons.

As Schultz notes, this is a historic hire for the franchise, breaking a long-standing gender barrier dating back to the franchise’s origins in 1946.

Donaldson was a standout four-year basketball player for the University of Northern Iowa Panthers. After graduating in 2015 with a degree in Statistics and Actuary Sciences, she took a position as SportVU Data Analyst with STATS LLC.

She has held previous positions in the NBA as an assistant coach, most recently as the Assistant Coach and Director of Coaching Analytics for the Detroit Pistons for the 2022-23 season. Prior to that, she sat on the bench as an assistant for the Toronto Raptors from 2019-21.

:D

Making a clean sweep of assistant coaches and then breaking the sex barrier! The Atlanta Hawks will be a different team
next season. They will be making trades and signing draft picks or trading them. The excitement mounts for their fans.
