Damian Lillard ‘was not thrilled’ Blazers chose not to trade for Hawks star

We can’t always get what we want and that appears to be the case with regards to one Atlanta Hawks star who was on the short list of preferred options for Damian Lillard ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft.
Portland held on to the No. 7 overall pick, taking explosive guard Shaedon Sharpe.
“Dame was not thrilled that thrilled that night when they did that,” reported Rose Garden Report’s Sean Highkin on ‘The Athletic NBA Show’ on May 20. “He would have preferred if they had traded the pick for [Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby] or John Collins or whoever else they were talking about.”
Collins was “frequently mentioned” in connection to Portland last offseason, per Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

Would have been a game changer for both franchises (and all players involved.) Collins may have gotten to All Star status next to Dame.
Hawks could have found a true 2nd banana for Trae in Sochan, Jalen Williams or Dyson Daniels.

Bilal can quench that Williams thirst. I actually like his potential more than JW.

Shaedon Sharpe is who I would have wanted at the time and Portland drafted him. Lillard realizes how talented John Collins is, which is great, but he probably wasn't as familiar with Shaedon Sharpe. Lillard may have a different perspective now.
