Sports Business JournalYMCA lands Hawks' patch sponsorship
The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is the new uniform patch sponsor of the Hawks. Terms were not disclosed, beyond it being called a multiyear agreement. The familiar “Y” logo will appear on the Hawks jerseys starting with tomorrow’s home game versus the Pacers.
Also included is a patch on the jerseys of the Hawks' G League affiliate College Park Skyhawks, and a virtual one on the Hawks' Talon GC NBA 2K League team. Traditional media, social, digital and on-site signage, and global rights are also packaged with the deal. The Y will lean heavily on community efforts to support its new rights, including involvement in coaches’ clinics and the Jr. Hawks youth basketball leagues.
Digital health brand Sharecare was the Hawks' uniform sponsor since the 2017-18 season, but the team began this season as one of five NBA franchises without a jersey patch sponsor. Sharecare remains a Hawks corporate patron, with its logo now on shooting shirts.
Retail availability for the new Hawks jerseys is TBD, as the deal came together in less than two months. Hawks and State Farm Arena EVP/CRO Andrew Saltzman noted the synergies of the deal, starting with the fact that basketball was invented by a Y instructor, James Naismith, and continuing through the many active NBA players who are YMCA “alums.” They include Hawks GM Landry Fields and two roster players: Trae Young and Kobe Bufkin.
“We weren’t chasing the biggest number; we wanted the right brand,’’ insisted Saltzman. “There’s authentic connections to our community and it’s about increasing access to youth sports.”
YMCA of Metro Atlanta President & CEO Lauren Koontz said the deal is intended to build relevance, drive membership, and increase fund raising for her organization. She called the jersey sponsorship “a platform where we can talk about positive youth development, how kids and families can get involved with all of our programs, including basketball, and something to position the Y for the next generation.” There are around 30 YMCA facilities in metro Atlanta.

OT: Hawks Finally Land on New TV Deal
This is an embarrassingly mediocre business sponsorship deal.

Re: OT: QuikTrip picks Hawks for first NBA team deal
Nice to see the business apparatus is still churning along for the Hawks. There was speculation that the turmoil the franchise endured last winter might effect negotiations for a new business partnership.
Does this mean no more ShareCare patches?
Will those jerseys now be considered collector's items?

Re: OT: Hawks Finally Land on New Patch Sponsorship
Moving from Sharecare to the YMCA is a definite downgrade.
This tells us the Hawks brand in the city of Atlanta is pretty lackluster.
The turmoil the franchise went through earlier this year combined with the mediocre product for the last few seasons likely played a part in larger, higher end companies declining the opportunity.
That stupid Only Hawks Fans promo doesn't exactly help the franchise's image either.

I gotta admit, the public presentation of this lowly partnership has been stellar.
Hawks not just putting lipstick on a pig...they're adding eye shadow, leggings and a killer wig, too.

Is this a significant deal for Atlanta residents?
I know Bally has been an undependable broadcast partner for a while now...

Yes, DUI, and he's been arrested for getting a prostitute. I worked with Charles and on the TNT set for over 15 years along with other things in the entertainment industry at the time.
I was in the studio when he apologized on live television to the viewers about the prostitute. He was going to be fired.
On a positive note, Charles is about as humble as a celebrity gets, maybe not Dirk humble, but you get the point.

For those that don't have Bally/only stream, this is solid. PeachtreeTV is an over the air channel.
Bally does suck because it ties you either into a cable package or a high priced streaming service.

Good deal.
Now, if only we can eventually get off the Bally's network.
