Congrats to the Heat for a really special run through the playoffs. They struggled the regular season, but really turned it on in the postseason and had some memorable moments unlike anything we've seen in recent years.



Miami has basically run the division for the entirety of its existence. In 19 years since the division was created, Miami has won 12 division titles. Almost twice as many as the other 4 teams combined. That's over multiple eras, multiple coaches, multiple top players.

My questions to the board:

• How do the Heatles manage this sustained success?
• Are we finally ready to snatch the crown?
• Can we become the dominant power for the next few years?
• Is there another SE Division Team better equipped to take the reins long term?

How do they do this?
Why have we never come close to matching this level of consistency or success?

They have owner, front office (particularly Pat Riley) and coaching consistency. We don't.
We've been thru Ferry, Bud, Schlenk, Fields since Ressler bought the team. On the coaching side: Bud, LP, Nate and now Quin. That's too much turnover in just 8 years.

Traded for Gordon in 2021 (Harris, Hampton, 1st)
Traded for KCP in 2022 (out Barton and Morris)

Think about this; guys like Gallo, Milsap, Jerami Grant, Will Barton, Kenneth Faried, Jusuf Nurkic, Javale McGee, Gary Harris, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbuilt were once teammates with Joker/Murray.  So the team that won last night has had their share of player turnover on the roster around Joker and Murray since they were both drafted.

The main stay from Joker's rookie season has been Coach Mike Malone (and Tim Conelly as GM until this year when Calvin Booth got the job) over the last 8 years:
33-49, 40-42, 46-36, 54-28, 46-27, 47-25, 48-34, 53-29.

Hawks are now on their 3rd head coach since the rebuild started in 2018 with front office upheaval this past year. Record over that span:

29-53, 20-47 (two deliberatetanking years), 41-31, 43-39, 41-41

I'm hoping we can have some stability in coaching and front office for at least the next 5 years.

Since 2015 when Ressler bought the team:
4 GMs: Ferry, Bud, Schlenk and Fields
4 Coaches: Bud, LP, Nate and Quin

That's too much turnover in 8 years.

The Hawks have to find their OWN way. The Detroit model, the Spurs way with Bud. GSW model with Schlenk. Hopefully not the Jazz way with Quin.

The Wiz got only salary relief for Beal, not even a protected 1st.
The next big decisions are what to do with Porzingas and Kuzma.

I have no reason to believe Washington will be a threat to us. Miami and if Charlotte drafts Brandon Miller I expect them to be successful. We need a productive off-season so we can stay competitive.

Schlenk really did fleece those Suns with Beal.

I don't which possibility is tougher to swallow:

• Heat running the same team back next season
• Heat swapping Bam Adebayo for Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons
• Heat swapping Bam and Herro for Zion/CJ McCollum

They still own us head-to-head...even when Jimmy Butler doesn't play.

Man, if Miami gets Zach Lavine in exchange for Tyler Herro...that might be enough to get them the division title and a top-4 seed this year.

Year in and year out, these dudes remain competitive.

I want us to be the team that takes the mantle from them.

I honestly believe the Hawks now have the better roster and the better coach. And yet, Heat continue to do more with less year in and year out.

Have the Magic usurped us as the up-and-coming team set to take over after Miami's eventual demise?
