Field Level MediaHawks, Knicks meet in Atlanta after losing openers
Different types of struggles from the field and similar issues closing out in the fourth quarter Wednesday night have the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks in the same position of seeking their first win Friday night, when the Hawks host the Knicks in a meeting of the longtime Eastern Conference rivals.
Both teams were off Thursday after suffering narrow defeats Wednesday night, when the visiting Hawks lost to the Charlotte Hornets 116-110 and the host Knicks fell to the Boston Celtics 108-104.
The Hawks led by as many as 11 points in the first half and trailed by as many as seven in the third quarter before squandering a narrow lead in the final six minutes of the fourth. The Hornets scored on 10 of their last 12 possessions, a span in which Atlanta was 4-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-7 from 3-point land.Spoiler:

Hawks looks like a mess.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

They actually played far better after you said that

sadly until 3 minutes to go.
Capela missing at the rim, follow by a stupid lob attempt from Trae to Capela (yes, some other guys catch that, but it was not enough near the basket, unless it was touched by a NYK defender, I'm not sure) and a missed quick layup by Trae again (one like we saw a lot last season), and the game is lost.
Good game for the bench, good game for Hunter even if I still would like to see his 21' defense back.
But this starting lineup is not working, and I still don't see how Quin can make it work, at least for now...

Frustrating game all night watching in person, but encouraging in some areas. Execution, the theme if Quin's post game presser:

60 points vs 36 points on 3s....24 point differential. Won't win this way. But yet, we were a Capela missed bunny away from tying up the game.

Too many defensive mistakes. Quin has lots of tape for review.

Missed a bit of this game had to rewatch this flustercuck. So Trae needs to score more efficiently, but he still creates offense with his misses. His shot is still off coming from last season, gotta let the offense come to him.
DJM I noticed attacked the rim in the 1st and went back to that inefficient off the dribble long range shot. He has to stay in attack mode.
Capela had one great season, got paid and is regressing every season. It's forgivable missing bunnies vs light pressure but I've never seen a 7 footer miss multiple uncontested guaranteed put backs.
Defense is the top issue at hand. They gave up a league high 126 points. Bey and Capela anchoring the defense is a disaster in the making. They are not dynamic enough on offense to offset any issues on the other end.

Close losses are a great opportunity to improve. Usually more instructive than close victories.
