Collin Murray-Boyles (South Carolina, PF, Sophomore)

Image

Pro comparison: Julius Randle/Grant Williams

There will be steady debate over Collin Murray-Boyles' presumed production, style of play and his fit/pathway for NBA upside.

He has the wider, strong build like Randle and Williams. Inside 20 feet, his skill set and skill level mirror Randle's. Murray-Boyles has impressive quick rip-through or back-to-the-basket moves that use power and physicality, counters and one-handed shotmaking.

A 17.2 assist percentage and 2.8 steal percentage also help highlight passing and defensive quickness as pluses for Murray-Boyles.

Scouts will still question Randle's Murray-Boyles' scoring potential and want to see gradual perimeter development.

I think there is something special here. A true two-way player.

He might be the frontrunner for 2026 ROY.

Collin Murray-Boyles

Size: 6'7", 245 lbs
Age: 19
Nationality: USA
Pro Comparisons: Julius Randle

A recent 20-point game on 10-of-10 shooting highlighted just how effective Collin Murray-Boyles is at using his 245-pound frame, inside touch and angles around the basket.

There are sure to be skeptics who question a 6'7" "big" who's not a shooter yet, but Murray-Boyles should have a case to succeed out of the box with his strength and skill from the post and short corners.

Through games January 6, 2025, Murray-Boyles is averaging 15.8 points per game on 64.7% true shooting, 9.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.4 blocks. On the offensive end, those averages have come largely by way of post-ups, where Murray-Boyles wins at a rate of 1.128 points per possession despite being undersized in most instances.

The skeptics pose an interesting question. Murray-Boyles is, at least on the surface, behind the times. Post-ups are an effective form of offense in the NBA today, benefiting from the incredible spacing integral to the current era. However, the best practitioners are either around seven feet tall (Nikola Jokić, Nikola Vucevic, Alperen Şengün) or blend their post-ups with isolation scoring or utility from the perimeter (Pascal Siakam, DeMar DeRozan, Karl-Anthony Towns).

Murray-Boyles doesn’t have that same size and, at least in his current role, hasn’t displayed the perimeter skillset. Occasionally, players slip through the cracks with abnormal skill sets — Draymond Green is the one many associate with Murray-Boyles. So, if anything, what makes Murray-Boyles a guy that so many are convinced is a lottery talent despite the apparent limitations in his role?

If CMP can learn to hit corner threes at 35% or better, dude is a multiple time All Star in this league. He's looking like Julius Randle with better defense at this point.

He has the scoring chops to be a long term stand in for injury prone Jalen Johnson.

I really like Rasheer Fleming's size and tools, but Collin Murray Boyles seems more likely to make an impact in the Association.

Is CMB more of an undersized PF or an oversized, power wing?
