Hawks fined $100K for holding out Trae Young in NBA Cup game against Boston

Fred Katz: The NBA has fined the Hawks $100K for violating the league’s player participation policy. Hawks sat Trae Young for an NBA Cup game against the Celtics. League says an independent physician deemed he could have played.

Brad Rowland: FWIW – I’ve been told, including in the last 10 min, that Young was (and still is) dealing with an actual injury. The ruling is that he could’ve reasonably played, per the NBA. This is my own opinion now, but the Hawks not listing him on the injury report for the next game didn’t help their case.

NBA seems confused about how to handle the injury report

It feels like a dicey situation. Either you get fined or risk more injury to a player.

absolutely hate this
the idea that some league appointed NBA doctor is gonna go around overruling treatments of team docs and players on how they feel pisses me off. feels extremely punitive for you guys having the nerve to beat a league darling in their stupid cup without even using your best player
