2025 Prospect Spotlight: Rasheer Fleming

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Thu Jan 2, 2025 4:07 pm

Image

My new draft crush. 3rd year PF out of St. Joes.
Currently projects to be available in the 20s of the 1st round.

You guys have any insights on this kid?

Rasheer Fleming | PF | Saint Joseph's

Size: 6'9", 240 lbs
Age: 20
Nationality: USA
Pro Comparison: Taylor Hendricks

Scouts have caught on to Rasheer Fleming's mix of inside scoring, shooting, defensive tools and passing flashes.

He's the only player in the country with 20 or more threes and dunks. His defensive playmaking rates (3.5 STL, 5.5 BLK) also highlight disruptive strength, length and movement.

If the three-point accuracy continues—he does look confident and fluid spotting up from the corners and popping out to the wings—interest is bound to build in a 6'9" power forward who spaces the floor and wins around the basket.

Per this metric...Rasheer grades out comparably to Cooper Flagg at a similar size and position. (Though RF is 2+ years older.)

A relatively young junior who won’t turn 21 until this summer, Fleming flashes an intriguing combo of skill and beast ball. While his 40.9 percent mark from 3 is probably an early-season outlier, the fact he adds some touch to his athletic feats around the basket offers inside-outside potential.

As for the interior game, Fleming is shooting 68.5 percent on 2s thanks to plays like this.

He’s also a plus rebounder and has been deft enough on the perimeter to swipe 3.3 steals per 100 possessions. Playing in the mid-major Atlantic 10 means Fleming doesn’t get a lot of chances to match up against other first-round prospects or elite teams, and his team is likely too, um, mid, to get into the NCAA Tournament. As a result, he may need to prove his value at the combine.

The top draft prospect for our range of the draft IMO.

He might even slip into the lottery at this point.

Rasheer Fleming, F, Saint Joseph’s

Height: 6' 9"
Weight: 240 pounds
Wingspan: 7' 5"

Fleming has been a revelation during his junior season, catching the NBA’s attention for his massive frame, impressive defensive playmaking, improved shooting, and strong finishing at the rim. Fleming has ideal size for an NBA four at 6’9, 220+ pounds with a reported 7’5 wingspan. He’s been able to leverage those ultra long arms to get blocks (5.1 percent block rate) and steals (3.1 percent steal rate) all season in the Atlantic-10. He’s also been cleaning the glass at both ends of the floor this year, including a 24.9 percent defensive rebound rate that nearly ranks top-50 in the country.

Fleming has made a big leap as a three-point shooter this year (40.4 percent on his first 89 attempts), but he’s mostly known for his interior scoring. He’s making 69 percent of his shots at the rim so far, and has hammered in 29 dunks in his first 20 games. Fleming doesn’t create off the bounce much and teams might still have skepticism about his shot given his non-existent mid-range game and poor free throw shooting numbers. His combination of size and production should still be enough to get him looks later in the first round.

Fleming kinda sounds like healthy John Collins on offense and Tari Eason on defense...

Rasheer Fleming

Position: Forward
College: Saint Joseph's
Class: Junior
Height/Weight: 6'9", 240 lbs

Player Overview
Rasheer Fleming is a long, high-motor forward with intriguing defensive upside. His 7'4" wingspan, anticipation, and ability to disrupt passing lanes make him a valuable presence on defense. While he can struggle against quicker guards, he effectively contains wings and protects the rim. His fluid movement in transition suggests untapped potential as a more versatile player.

Offensively, Fleming thrives as a roll-man in pick-and-roll situations and has solid shooting mechanics, particularly on set shots. His footwork and patience around the rim are promising, but his on-ball creation and passing vision remain areas for development. Though he lacks elite vertical athleticism, his length, motor, and defensive instincts could help him carve out a solid role at the next level.

Strengths
  • Defensive Versatility: Uses his length well to contest shots, disrupt passing lanes, and defend wings.
  • High Motor: Plays with great energy, impacting the game even without the ball.
  • Shooting Mechanics: Quick, high-release jumper that is effective in catch-and-shoot situations.
  • Fluid Movement: Moves well in transition and has solid footwork in the half-court.
  • Smart Roll-Man & Cutter: Makes good reads in pick-and-rolls and finds openings off the ball.

Concerns
  • On-Ball Creation: Struggles to create offense for himself outside of set plays.
  • Passing Vision: Needs to improve decision-making and playmaking ability.
  • Lack of Vertical Explosion: Relies more on length than leaping ability around the rim.
  • Footwork in Space: Can be vulnerable when closing out or defending in space.

Questions
  • Will he be switchable enough to defend consistently away from the rim?
  • Can he develop into a more versatile scorer?
  • How much will his lack of vertical athleticism limit him in the NBA?

Bottom Line
Rasheer Fleming’s length, defensive potential, and high motor make him an intriguing forward prospect. While his offensive game is still developing, his ability to disrupt plays on defense and make smart off-ball decisions could help him find a role at the next level. Improving his on-ball creation, passing, and mobility in space will be key to maximizing his potential as a two-way player.

Rasheer Fleming has a place in the league. I like the energy he plays with and he doesn't mind pick pocketing his opponents. He's a baller!

This is the kind of impact player Rasheer, at a very reasonable outcome, can become.
Multi-faceted, elite team defender who can defend 3 positions at a very high level.

Is it worth spending a lottery pick on Rasheer when a guy like Toumani was found in the 2 round?

Hawks officially linked to Rasheer Fleming.

NOTE: Sacramento also had a scout in attendance. We'd likely need to use their draft pick to have a shot at RF.

RF is an elite play finisher. An elite team defender. He'd excel next to a pair of top line passers like Trae and Jalen.

And I suspect he can man every front court position...

Rasheer Fleming (Saint Joseph's, PF)

Size: 6'9", 240 lbs
Age: 20
Nationality: USA
Pro Comparison: Taylor Hendricks

Rasheer Fleming's three-point shot hasn't slowed down, a key reason why he's rising in popularity and becoming more believable to NBA scouts.

He's the only player in college hoops with over 30 dunks and 40 threes. The mix of 6'9" size, rim finishing, shooting, 1.5 blocks and 1.4 steals should look attractive for a stretch-4 role.

Elite play finisher and the perfect backup PF for a Trae-led team.

Has the shooting to man the SF spot and the strength/wingspan to fill minutes at Center.

His skill set is pretty redundant with Risacher's, but Rasheer is an elite role player in the making.

Should Fleming be the target with that Kings pick in the early teens?

Some anti-Fleming propaganda to balance things out...
