Trade ID 4406861

Hawks Trade
Josh Childress
Speedy Claxton

Utah Trades
Mehmet Okur

We get another big, albeit he doesnt always play very big, but a body no less. Plus, he'd be a big upgrade over Shelden. He's also a good 3 pnt shooter which is something we know the Hawks are among the worst in the L at.

Losing Chil hurts, especially with Marvin's growing pains showing up many nights, but we might lose him to FA anyway or sign-and-trade him this summer.

New Lineup
AJ/Acie
JJ/Salim
Marv/Josh
Josh/Okur/Shelden
Horford/Okur/Zaza

Speedy is untradeable right now. If he ends up retiring he would completely come off of the Hawks cap, if he gets traded and ends up retiring because of his knee injury then his new team wouldn't get any cap relief at all.

Jazz would need a lot more in return. We would probably have to give up our expirings instead of Speedy and possibly Shelden and zaza also. Then there is the fact that 8.5 million this year next, and possibly 9 million the year after is too much to pay for a backup.

Very unfair trade for the Utah Jazz.

Speedy is untradeable. Not sure how much of his contract is insured given his history of being banged up, but a team that acquires him now would be unable to insure him.

If you cleaned up the deal to more equitable to both sides then I think it may be a bad move. I thought about Okur a few weeks ago when a rumor of the Jazz shaking this came out and did a little research. While he can shoot from outside, his play at C was way too soft. He's put up numbers in his last two games, but I'm not sure what he'd provide in terms of rebounds off the bench for us. He'd cost 9 and 9.5 M in the next 2 years which is high for his production level.

I still think the best remedy to backup C play that we could get for a playoff push is Kurt Thomas from Seattle. I will elaborate in a separate thread.

Okur is soft. He would help our three point shooting but do nothing for our low post toughness. And NO ONE is going to touch Speedy.

lol, Okur was an all star last year, and is a special player as a 7 footer who can shoot like that.

Not even close to fair for Utah (and Okur is not a backup in this league).

If we really wanted Okur, the obvious trade would involve Marvin. That way, you shift Smoove to the 3, Horford to the 4, but we still have a shooter b/c Okur is at the 5. That line-up would create crazy mismatches, and would kinda approximate Utah's lineup (Smoove = AK47, Horford = Boozer, and then Okur).

I dont know if Id do that trade... I probably wouldnt actually. But, it makes the most sense.

Bad trade for both teams. Okur is more valuable to Utah than Childress, Childress is more valuable to the Hawks than Okur.

People would call Utah stupid if they made this trade but honestly a line up of

Williams
Brewer
Childress
Kirilinko
Boozer

looks alot better than their starting line up now honestly.

Childress makes the Hawks better with his pushing the Tempo, Okur would hurt that.
