The Atlanta Hawks (16-17) enter Tuesday's game fresh off a 104-85 win over Chicago. It was the 1st time the Hawks had defeated the Bulls in a dozen chances. The Hawks enter this game as the 8 seed in the East.

Denver will visit Charlotte and Atlanta on a 2 game road swing and is 7-8 away from home this season. The Nuggets have won four of their last five games overall, including Friday's 113-103 victory over the Orlando Magic at the Pepsi Center.

It's time to raise the roof at Phillips tonight!

Whenever you see animated lineups they're from Mavsofty on the Dallas board.

The Hawks fare well against teams that don't play defense.

I haven't looked at Denver's stats but I remember them being and up and down the floor squad.

They've also got 4 or 5 players injured.

Who is to blame for the Shelden Williams Debacle?

I even remember Dominique Wilkins mentioning Shelden Williams and how we need him. Shelden's at fault here but obviously people point the finger at Billy Knight.

The majority at Realgm seemed to feel like Shelden would do what he's done at this point. Hawk fans + countless - Atlanta Organization - ?

Denver just lost a tough one to the Bobcats tonight, 119-116.

The Nuggets are more athletic than the Hawks and our better than us(or equal to)at just about every matchup besides PF. On paper it's probably not a good matchup(like New Jersey)but it should still be a very entertaining up and down game. Hopefully Denver relaxes a little on the 2nd night of a back to back.

The worst thing about the Shelden pick (other than the fact that most of us knew it would turn out like this) was that it leaked we were going to pick him way before the draft so we couldn't trade down (even though Shel was not a t10 pick in anyone's book).

I still blame Billy Knight because I saw reasons to predict Shelden's mediocrity at the NBA level while he was at Duke. It's not like I get paid to evaluate basketball talent. BK didn't even bring him in for a close up look because he didn't want to type his hand and had seen enough of him in college. He then shut down workouts altogether. If he had done true due diligence he might have seen the flaws in Shelden's game, or realized that there were players projected in the 2nd round that were as likely to make an impact at the NBA level, or he may have noticed that there was a player available at #5 that could contribute significantly to the team in other ways.

I blame Shelden for not earning any minutes on the team, but I blame BK for him being on the team at all.

Shelden was a bad pick. But so was Darko for the Pistons (over Melo, Wade, Bosh, et al). Look how they ended up that season. Not that I'm holding my breath for a Hawks title this year (one can dream) but I'm just saying 1 pick doesn't necessarily have to be dwelled upon for so long as it might not really affect the final outcome too much (though CP3 would be nice right now).

BTW, current line is Atlanta by 1.5 with 205 o/u. I would feel better about our chances in Denver hadn't lost to Charlotte. We should be able to win though with them on the 2nd half of back-to-backs on the road. Gotta love the over bet.

Shelden did look like a slow stiff with short arms and no vetical in college in spite of his success at Duke and the ACC.

At least 1 of the Williams' is panning out I guess.

I agree Dalllas, it'd be better if the Nuggets had won in Charlotte. Now they'll come up hungry, once the race for playoff spots in the West is very tight. We got to play very well to beat them. They can score in bunches, but they are also vulnerable on defense. I hope we can run, which means playing good D. to get out on fastbreaks. That's when we are at our best, and we'll need that to win this game. Great game thread btw.

This could be a fun game to watch... they were last year. Strange note: Atlanta is ranked number 8 in the league in total defense (points allowed per 100 possessions), Denver? 6. So that's odd. They are also ranked at 14 in total offense which is suprising because you think of Denver as an all score - no defend type of team. Anyway, they had actually been holding teams down even better earlier in the season but PHX scored 137 on them the other night which didn't help their rankings.

Anyway, we should take a page out of Gerald Wallace's book tonight. He went 13-24 with 10-15 FTs but all of his shots were either 3s or at the rim. He got 4 of his shots blocked but that's what happens when you play a front line like Denver's. If Josh and Marv can get some spacing from Joe (big "if"), I can see them getting to the rim against Denver's forwards. Those guys are very good at finishing against shotblockers too. Joe's shot falling should help too, if he is playing against AI for a significant portion, he's gonna get burned some but he can't let it affect him on the other end. Iverson can't bother his shot if Joe is feeling it.

Our D against them is gonna be a little tougher, Iverson is such a big matchup problem for us because AJ is slow and Law is too much of a rookie. Lets hope Woody and co. can come up with a good scheme to force AI into some shots he doesn't have a good chance of making, or at least let AI have his way to the detriment of the Nuggets (may be our best chance).

I'd like to see Mario get some time guarding AI.

Just read that Carmelo Anthony tweaked his back last night. Not sure if it will affect him tonight, but it is just something to keep an eye.
