Non-Hawks fan here. I'm wondering if your owners will be willing to pay both of these guys and how much they will ask for.

If Josh Smith can can keep playing teamball and play smart basketball. They will likely pay Josh Smith whatever he wants.

Chill is another question. It really depends on what offers he gets. I'd say they will go up to the MLE to 5 years/$35 Mil. Anything over that then he is likely gone. If that turns out to be the case. I hope the Hawks can work a sign and trade for him.

Smoove will be here at whatever price it takes. Chillz I don't know so much about. It just depends what he is offered, an S&T is definetely a possibility.

I agree. Smith is going to get paid basically anything he wants.

I don't see teams having the cap room to offer chill a big deal. He will likely get an mle deal from a team, and I hope the owners match that deal. Yes his cap hold is big but he is a great spark off the bench at 3 positions.

i think both will stay. Hawks have no depth at 3, so letting Chill go would leave them with basically just Marvin and Joe, or they'd have to send Smoove back to 3, which clearly isn't the best solution. There's noone out there that can replace Josh with the MLE, so I think he'll get something up to 6,7 M per.

The owners will really give Smith whatever he wants? I thought the owners were cheap and still fighting over power. Paying smith around 12-13 mil/year will really tie up your payroll for years to come and won't leave room for much more. Adding Smith alone would raise the payroll to around 44 million not including Childress. If you pay Childress too, then it's around 51-52 million. I hope you guys tie up your payroll with these two so you can't afford a good point guard because the Hawks could be scary with a decent PG.

No one really knows what the effects of the ownership issues could be. It certainly doesn't prevent us from signing players and the group should be pulling in more revenue this season, especially if we make the POs which should allow them to at least get near the cap. By the end of next season, when we have to worry about Marv, Speedy might be tradeable as an expiring which might allow us to fill a couple slots on our roster (if he doesn't retire). I think Smith will happen, as do most analysts, and Chil is a maybe depending on who is offering money to FAs.

Childress will probably get 5M-6M

Hawks will end up matching and keep both players..... Shelden is going to be the odd man out.

I forgot all about Marvin Williams' contract expiring. By the time he's due, he'll be worth around 8-9 million too. And then it'll be Horford's turn two years after that. You guys will have to decide on which 3 of the 5 to keep and I think it'll be Williams and Childress as the odd men out. This is all barring any trades of course.

i wouldn't worry about Marvin. when it is time for Marvin to resign, Speedy's contract will have already expired. Marvin is going to get paid, and the Hawks will end up paying and/or matching because next year Marvin will probably average 18-20ppg....

that is why i don't see Shelden staying. then Hawks have to worry about Horford, and if he ends up being an all-star center, Hawks will end up offering +9M, and by that point, i don't think the Hawks will mind getting over the cap for those four players.

btw... Joe's contract also expirers when Marvin's contract expirers, of course Hawks will resign Joe, but at age 30, Hawks might be able to resign Joe for 2-3M less than his current contract.

It all depends on the owner situation. If the opposition is ended, and if they want to go over the cap (not talking about going into luxury area), we could keep more than 3... if guys also want to create a good team and not ONLY think about money.

The first year of Marvin extension will be in the same season than the last of Speedy (assuming Marvin won't sign the QO and get an extension).

I can't see anyway this team doesn't go way over the cap.

By not paying Marvin Williams and surrounding Joe, Josh and Horford with role players. Much like Phoenix when they keep trading away draft picks and players to stay under that luxuary tax threshold.

Horford is going to be a Max player and so is Smith and Johnson.

Actually none of them will be max players when their contracts are up, unless non All-Stars regulars are max players.

Johnson already is a Max player.

Smith will probably not get all the way to max, but he will be in the 11-12 mill per year range easily.

Horford is going to be a max player at the end of his three years unless some major injury comes around.

Just using a realistic assumption of growth as a player, he should be averaging around 12-15 points, 12-13 rebounds and 1.5 to 2.5 blocks per game, he is already a very solid defensive Center that is only going to get better.

And unless you know about some influx of centers that are about to magically come into the league, Al Horford is going to get a max contract.

Johnson already is a Max player.

That is because we had to offer him the max to come to a rebuilding situation. It is a lot different when you are trying to resign your own free agent.

And the max will be a lot higher when JJ's contract is up than it was when he signed.

LOL what makes you think Horford can average 15 pts? He is only getting 9 now. He couldn't even average 15 in college.

Okafor (the closest comparison to Horford) hasn't improved his rebounding from his rookie year. That is much more the norm. Most players don't improve their rebounding by much without a position change or a big increase in minutes.

It is much easier for a bad rebounder to improve their numbers than it is for a good rebounder to improve.

Horford is only blocking 1.1 shots per game. how is he going to magically double that total? Will he suddenly grow longer arms?

Do you think Bogut is a max player? He has clowned the Hawks.
