Horford ready for Toronto's mad rapture

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Jan 17, 2008 11:17 pm

Al Horford is ready for the storm that's sure to come from screaming fans Friday night when the Hawks face the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre.

The Hawks' rookie center spent three years touring some of the most venomous environments in basketball during his All-American career at Florida.

So he's been in an uncomfortable place or two and handled himself pretty well.

"I've heard some pretty nasty things over the years, about myself and my family and just about anything else you can think of," Horford said. "I've never been one to play to the crowd or let them get to me, and I won't start now, no matter what's being said or done."

"I've put that behind me," Horford said. "I definitely have. I'm just trying to go out and have a regular game. It was one of those things that there were just so many people were trying to make into something that it was not. I just had to stop thinking about it and try and move forward. And that's what I've been doing."

Sekou Homers beware

"Raptors fans, though, haven't gotten past it. Ford hasn't played since that night. And blogs and message boards have been lit up ever since with biting comments about both Horford and the Hawks in anticipation of Friday's contest."

Here's one of his quotes you left out. Thing is, when I read Sekou Smith's article I got a funny feeling. So I visited the TOR boards to see if my feeling was right. It was.

The TOR boards are not "lit up with biting comments". I checked. They are actually very civil. The conversation was about whether or not they should boo. Vicious stuff there. Most said they'd not boo. Even the ones that said they'd boo, said they'd only boo a little boo emm bit.

Looks like Sekou is sensationalizing; trying to create something where there is nothing. It seems a little inflammatory as well. I just don't even understand why he would go there. The fans he was alluding to actually seem to be of the opinion that Al is a good guy.

I'm thinking about taking this to Smith's blog, but I could get in big trouble talking bad about SS.

Really just think it's cheap journalism and that he could easily have come up with something better than that.

I really like the little bit on Al with Cheryl Miller. He's going to be a star.

Yeah, that'll show TJ for trying to hurt Horford's hand with his head!

Agree 100% here. I was a little dissapointed to read this from Sekou who usually does his homework.

When the foul happened, I thought we are going to have to deal with the "crazy Raptor fans." That wasn't the case, most of them were very civil and even more were just getting a little emotional after seeing the play. I don't think there is any issue at all now.

Not the raptor fans but TJ will be if he is hit on the head that hard again. Horford may not have being trying to hurt Ford. I am certain he is sorry. But if you look at the replay he had no chance of blocking the shot. It was one of those plays that happens a few times a game where a player is trying to make sure the opponent doesn't get an easy layup. Except this time it was to the head.

Ok, what prompted this? Loosen up a little, maybe you need a GF.

I'll also be at the game tomorrow, hopefully the fans won't boo. I'd feel embarassed to be a Raptors fan if we stoop to such a level. Horford is a class act, he made a mistake but he doesn't deserve boos for it.

Now Bargnani on the other hand, he deserves to be booed for sucking so much. :banghead:

We have watched the reply time and time again. We have heard what Horford and TJ both said what happened. Ford changed the direction of the shot the last second before he released it.

It's only a select few that are acting in that manner. I like to read the Raps board because they have such a great fan base. He is kind of the stereotypical Raps fan but there arent nearly as many of those as people act.
