Heard a great rumored deal today: Jamaal Magloire straight up for Zaza. The money ($4 million for each guy) works and bringing him here allows you to keep your core intact and add the greasy big man you need to help get this team by in the middle. And the risk isn

Don't want to hurt, but I don't like this type of expression, I see it for team without ambition.
At this point, we won't have cap room, but if we can have more, I would prefer imagine this money being spend on a F.A. fixing one need, and then signing extensions.

Don't think it helps any this season based on Magloire's play, but I'd love to have the flexibility in the off season. While I think Zaza at his former level of play was a bargain at $4M per, I have my doubts that he'll return to that level while in a Hawks uniform.
If the rumor has any legs, I wonder if it is actually part of another move to turn expiring deals into current help (like someone wants expiring deals and was unwilling to take a year of Zaza).

Magloire hasn't asked for trade, but could be trading chip
In Monday night's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, New Jersey Nets center Jamaal Magloire played for just the fourth time in the last 11 games. The onetime All-Star remains puzzled about his situation and doesn't know if anything will change.
"It's hard to say," Magloire said. "I'm just going to be a good soldier and continue to work."
League sources said that Magloire has not asked to be traded. His one-year, $4 million contract, however, could be a valuable trading chip, especially since the Nets are closer to getting back Nenad Krstic.

I'm not really sure what's wrong with Mags these days. Maybe he has no heart or it's poor condition. Low risk trade depending on what it would take to acquire him. A second round pick would most likely need to accompany ZaZa and I still doubt New Jersey would want ZaZa.

I see that cap room as not for resigning our core, but rather for making a run at a key addition to put us over the top. To be honest I want us to trade Zaza, Shelden, and Chill (or renounce him) and go all out after Calderon and resign Josh Smith matching any offer (which we should regardless). If we don't get Jose then I want Toronto to pay through the nose to keep him because they are our competitor. That extra space (along with moving Childress) gives us the chance to make that kind of offer for Jose or to be a player for a max contract guy like Arenas. If we have to fall back to a plan B, we can get a lesser starting PG and a big with more size.
I don't consider Childress our core. He's a nice player, but if we invest in him we'll always been trying to skimp by on the cheap at other key positions. Plus we'll be lamenting his lack of defensive foot speed and 3 point shooting.

I wanted Magloire for 3 years
Now, I am not so sure. It has been a long time since he has proven he still has the desire to play in this league. There were many opportunities as he has been available for 2 years. He could not even get minutes in Portland with Pryzbilla in front of him! Now he is sitting in NJ.
While it isn't much of a risk, I don't see him as an upgrade to Zaza.
I like Zaza, and he will perform better going forward than he has the last 2 weeks.
He is still very young, and still has something to prove as we keep bringing in big men to take his minutes. He so far has kept a #5 pick (Shelden) from gettting minutes, so that alone tells you Billy is just inconsistent with his talent evaluation.
I would not be surprised to see us get a vet, like we did with AJ last year who has surprised me 100%. I never thought he would get in shape to lead these young guns, but he has and I am impressed.
Personally, I think Chicago is going to have to make a move or 2 to get back on track. They don't look very good this late in the season (like Miami) and will need something to make a run at just a playoff slot.
