He wants out of Orlando....Im not a big fan of the guy but we seriously need some shooters.....I know many of you will say we have Salim who we never use....cuz Woodson hates him and always keeps him in the doghouse or whatever but......aaahhh dang it nevermind......Redick is the same as Salim....that would fix anything......JUST FIRE WOODY..... :banghead:

Reddick would be a nice fit. I think he would also shoot better than 35% like our "shooter" Salim is.

There's one thing to note. Even if Salim is not shooting well at this moment (don't want to enter the "it's Woodson/Salim fault"), he could also get something if we could get Reddick. We could create different combo of shooters on the court (JJ+Salim, JJ+Reddick, Salim+Reddick or the three at the same time), each would be better with more open shots. Look at TOR this year, they add Kapono, and they are all shooting career 3pts%.
The play which killed us in the POR game with the two 3s made by Outlaw can be made only if you got several shooters on the floor, and at this time, we don't have this opportunity.

I may be wrong, but I am convinced that this is a kind of basketball weapon that we are lacking.

I would definitely trade for Redick. When he was getting consistent minutes last year the Orlando fans seemed to be impressed with him.

I would trade Shelden or Childress for him right now.

Easily.

Childress scores 1.3 ppg off jumpers in 30 minutes. He is the big reason we are such a poor perimeter shooting team. he can't play D. He struggles to finish inside because he can't take contact. He has more turnovers than assists.

Resigning Childress would be dumb because he brings nothing that the Hawks need and that money would be better spent elsewhere . Waiting until the summer to try and work a SNT deal will most likely mean we lose him for nothing.

I would bet that Redick is probably better than anything we could get for Childress during the summer.

Not exactly sure which games you've been watching. I view Josh as a player that does the dirty work on the team and he's one of the reasons why we have won many of our games this year. He eats the offensive boards and I don't see him turning the ball over like you do.

Your right. It doesn't make much sense to resign Josh if he's requesting a large amount of money (NBA language). We can find a replacement and save some money. However, Josh has a very high basketball IQ, and he's a team player. That alone is very difficult to replace.

I'm sure some teams value Josh Childress pretty high, not sixth pick high, but JJ Redick is quickly taking a fast course out of the league. It's not even a dose of reality for Josh if he reads what you wrote...you should just slap him in the face before he reads he has JJ Redick value.

Yeah, Chil has some problems as a man defender but he does alright on team D. I like to point out that there are degrees of badness in everything and the degree to which Redick is bad at D is on a whole different level than Chil. Redick makes Lue look like Mookie.

He would definitely help our 3 point shooting but to trade him for Chil would hurt our rebounding, transition game, defense, and inside play.

We could get some serious value for Chillz with an S&T this summer. Players like that are very important to winning teams.

If getting lit up and getting your shots blocked is dirty work then you are right.

However, Josh has a very high basketball IQ,

LOL he has been notorious for his late game screwups and makes lousy decicions with the ball which again is why he has more turnovers than assists.

The Hawks sure didn't miss him when he was out.

you should just slap him in the face before he reads he has JJ Redick value.

It isn't about what his value is to other teams it is about what his value is to us. The Hawks have major needs right now and Childress fills none of them.

Better to get something for him now rather than letting him walk.

Show me one wing player in the NBA who gets 30 minutes per game, gets 1.3 ppg from jumpers and has more turnovers than assists.

Childress presense hurts our defense. Our inside play would be better with someone who could make an outside shot and open things up inside for Smith and Horford.

If you look at that thread i posted from the Orlando board you can see that Redick's D isn't as bad as you think.

Childress is unlikely to get more than the MLE anyway so why would a team give us anything for him?

tontoz,

I'd like to know how many times he's been blocked while attempting shots when the shot clock is running out. I will agree that he needs to make better decisions, but he's obviously going to get over matched when trying to put back offensive boards inside.

I'm not really worried about 1.5 turnovers per/game by JC. Why does this bother you when we have other players turning the ball over 2 times that amount?

I also doubt it's JC's job to be the assists machine on the team. It's a team effort out there considering we don't have a true point guard and we pass the ball until we find someone open. I say that lightly considering we have no one on this team that can create open looks and we normally pass the ball around for the length of the shot clock. It would also help if we had some actual shooters on the team.

Because the other guys actually create offense for themselves and others. Childress can't create for himself or anyone else which makes his turnovers more of a problem.

Smith gets a lot of TO's but he actually makes things happen. He can score on his own. He creates opportunities for others and puts pressure on the defense.

Childress does none of that. He doesn't create for himself or others. he doesn't score even one basket per game from the perimeter.

It would also help if we had some actual shooters on the team.

If we had one whose minutes would he take? Obviously Childress'. Childress is the main reason we are so lacking in perimeter shooting.

tontoz,

Another thing. Would you expect JJ to take over the 30 minutes per game Josh currently plays for us? If no, how many minutes do you expect JJ to play for Atlanta?

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. You seem to be under the impression that Childress gets a lot of minutes backing up the 2 spot. That isn't the case. He gets the vast majority of his minutes backing up the 3.

Chills has more skills than Reddick

Post#18 » by td00 » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:25 pm

No way would I trade for Reddick. I would try to get Kapono first. He is a proven shooter. Reddick is having trouble getting minutes for his team and he doesn't do things that Chills does for this team.
Do we need more shooters? Yes.

IMO, Reddick will be a disappointment maybe as much as Shelden. Woodson isn't going to allow him to take any of JJ minutes, and you wouldn't see both of them on the floor at the same time.

I would look elsewhere.

I don't think we should and will resign J. Chill. He's a bit too limited in some areas, but I agree that he'll very likely draw attention from contenders, I mean, teams that will give him a defined role. He's very usefull if used like that, not running the PG or defending 2s. Anyway, you don't trade him for JJ Redick no matter what. Redick has proven nothing. He's another great shooter who can't shoot, has trouble putting the ball on the floor, is physically not ready for the NBA, and can't play with one the best big men in the game. I'd trade Salim for him though, but I'd trade Salim for whoever just to get rid of him.
GO HAWKS.

He is under contract with the Raps until 2011.

he doesn't do things that Chills does for this team.

And Childress doesn't do the things this team needs. if Childress got hurt and his season ended we would have the exact same needs we have now.

Woodson isn't going to allow him to take any of JJ minutes, and you wouldn't see both of them on the floor at the same time.

Joe can easily spend some time at the 3. He is only .25" shorter than Smith and marvin.

There are some realities here that we need to face. Our negotiating position with Childress this summer will be very weak. There is NO WAY we can resign Smith and Childress and still fill the other holes in the roster. Other teams know this and since Childress is unlikely to command more than the MLE there is no reason for them to do a SNT deal with us.

if we decide to go after a more proven player than Redick they will be more expensive. There are inexpensive options out there. Gerald Green and Delonte come to mind.

But anyone thinking that we will get much in a Childress trade is in for a rude awakening.
