when the season started i thought that we would be a good team becuase our bench was deep. AJ, lue, acie, salim, west, sheldon, zaza, and solomon would be able to wear out the opposition. however i think that i had the opposite effect. usually, one player is getting pulled for another and no one is really getting into a groove off the bench. so what i'm asking is, should we trade two or three of our bench players for one bench player that can play two positions. i think that a problem we are having is that while our starters can guard multiple people, our bench is pretty static. Acie, lue, and AJ can only guard point guards, sheldon can only guard power forwards, and zaza can only guard center (and he's bad at that). what are some bench players that can guard multiple positions and how can we aquire them without giving up the core.

Things are a bit out of whack in Hawksville and its never good to make decisions when you are in a slide. That being said, the bench this season has been horrible regardless of duplication. Shelden, Zaza, and Jones are hypothetically guys that can play 2 positions but none of them have established themselves and 2 of them have had fairly major regressions. If any of our bench players other than Chil have any value at all, than yes trade them for someone that doesn't suck. Unfortunately it is rare to seem a player develop well in Atlanta (although upsettingly common to see one develop once they leave).

I still think a point guard that can consistently push the pace is what we need but in addition we need shooters and big men off the bench that aren't completely terrible. I wouldn't want to trade Chil because he is productive but if we can get a legit starter at the pg out of it I'd be OK.

I think its ridiculous to say Jones sucks though. He produces and plays hard every single time he touches the court and gets rewarded with more time on the bench. I don't really know what the guy can do. That is a coaching problem.

With that standing offer from you guys for Pau, you may consolidate your roster that way. We've been discussing this on the Griz board (not RealGM), that things are kind of lining up for a multi-player trade after recent moves. If something happens, it's between you guys, Charlotte and Chicago from what I know.

Have you guys figured out what our standing offer roughly is? I ask because I can't figure out what type of standing offer we've made.

No unfortunately. We have tried to come up with logical scenarios, but that's it.

The "logical" scenarios on the realgm grizz board include us giving up either Horford and Smith+, which is funny because there is no way the Hawks would accept anything with those two.

To me the roster problem is somewhat because we have too many, but mainly because woody plays the starters way too much and at different positions. He will play the starters 38-40+ minutes a game, and Smith has had games where he is at the 5 with Marvin at the 4 and Chill at the 3.

The most logical scenario for the Grizz to accept would at least include Marvin. Since we don't have a #1 pick to deal until 2010 we'd have to give up one of our young core.

Starters aren't playing that much minutes/game. The most minutes/game outside of JJ is Smith at 35/game. I think if we get rid of Zaza and T-Lue, Woody coaching will be a lot better.

You think Zaza and Lue are holding back Woody as a coach? Wow, what have I been watching? They can both be hurt, and this team still can't get into a fast rhythm.
This was supposed to be an up and down type team that was young and high-flying. Josh Smith and a little Marvin provides the flying here and IMO these 2 don't complement each other.
I will say this has been our best year to put 5 competitive players on the court, but that PG slot has been unfillable. We are an AJ injury away from losing any leadership at that spot.
I don't see how Pau makes us better if it takes and Childress/Marvin move. He makes an awful lot of money, and it doesn't appear that the AS can come together and make the commitment to go over the cap.
Soon, you wil have JJ, Smoove, and Pau under big contracts and their won't be enough left over to keep Horford long term. It might improve us, but it won't make us a top team in the East.
